I'm now second guessing running 5w-20 instead of 5w-30. I am actually doing a 1000mi clean out oil run with Royal Purple.

I would definitely stick to 5w30, there's a reason that ford changed specs on 2012+ models. I've heard great things about Royal purple, I'd stick some seafoam in there for the last 200 miles of the clean out.

Also check the engine oil pressure switch. Leaks have happened to a few SHO owners. Change the air filter, it might be causing a restriction.

I assume SHOdded meant oil filter there.
No, oil pressure sending unit. My daughter has this issue with her EB Flex. We (yes, she helped) changed the oil, filter, and oil pressure sending unit, and the low pressure light went away. The sending unit was covered with oil, so maybe leaking. I think her Flex had over 100K on it at the time.

From SHOdded:"Change the air filter, it might be causing a restriction." I assume he meant oil filter as air filter has nothing to do with oil pressure...

no, I meant air filter. That is what actually turned out to be the fix for one owner for whom a new EOP switch did not do the trick. Weird, I know, LOL. Basically it ended up raising the idle by about 50 RPM which probably was the real fix.

Ahh, gotcha. I'd still be concerned if it was low enough to trigger it at a slightly low idle but mine also would go out whenever it had even the slightest increase in revs.

Agreed. Increasing the idle is a way to "get by", not sure if there is real damage at the root tho - oil pump, timing chain, rod bearing, what have you. So wait and watch it is, LOL.

Good news and bad news.
I swapped out the oil pressure switch (pictured) which was covered in oil so I assume it was leaking. Afterwards, the low-pressure light has not come back on. The night is young though. That's the good news.
Bad news is that, when pulling the old oil pressure switch, oil dibbled all down the engine. I cleaned things up as best I could with rags and brake clean leaving a dry oil-free surface. I then took the car out to test drive, smelled oil, came back and oil was all over the oil pan, cat and oil filter. I checked the pressure switch for oil and it looked dry. I'm hoping that was oil from the prior dribble that I missed. But if not, I'm not sure where it is coming from.

Lastly, how tight did you guys snug the pressure switch up? I'm very reluctant to torque too hard when threading steel into aluminium. I would say I stopped when I got about 20lb of pressure, didn't have a torque wrench on it though. Tight area.

Right at 13 lbft for the NA 3.5, so I expect about the same for the EB. Getting it snug then 1/8-1/4 turn more should be plenty tight. Check carefully for a cracked block, as that has happened around the switch on some cars. Not sure how you would fix a crack in that area tho.

I checked with Alldata, it's 10 ft-lb then another 180 degrees. I didn't do the 180 extra, hopefully that fixes it.
Yeah, a crack right there would be a nightmare. Luckily I have a warranty so if that is the case I'll take it to ford.

What is that? engine block?
Yeah, it's below the exhaust manifold, passenger of the oil cooler and above the oil pressure switch. Very tight area, I could not see it directly, only with the camera.

Damn. I would say hopefully it's a coating? I hope it's not enough to cause an issue. You have a warranty?
From the sand casting who knows what tiny QC visual stuff gets passed by and never materializes as anything. SHOdded mentioned this condition but I wonder if there was failure there or just noticed the same visual issue?

So I installed a new oil pressure switch back in December. December 18th to be exact. No lights, no bells, nothing since then. I figure it's fixed. Then today, it starts doing what it was doing before again. The low oil pressure light and alarm goes off for half a second then stops. This happens every time I am sitting at a stoplight or idling. I checked oil level, it's right where it was when I did my oil change (300mi ago). I'm guessing I'll just make an appoitnment with Ford and go from there.
