It took almost a month but the Interceptor engine finally came in. Hopefully its the engine i ordered. I was told it was 1 of 2 available in the US. No clue if its true . Im sure there are blown up cop cars everywhere. Its going into my Non pp 2015. I gotta get lower radiator hose and quick connect lines for it. Do I need the top radiator hose? Or the PP radiator? Either way i hope to have it in sometime this week or weekend. I see the oil filter is already on it, i did not open it up yet either. So the oil cooler assembly is already installed on it?
Also came from Texas

I guess its right. Quick look on Ford Parts website shows the 6006 as the police engine. I was just little iffy, as ive ordered many assemblies from Jasper and like 3 times got the wrong tranny or engine. But im pretty sure this was directly from ford. I had a shop order it for me

Yea i dont know why it says 2012 but the engine code matches a 2015 PI engine

2012 was the first year of the PI and it had the 3.7 and 3.5t as an option. Just from a quick online search
This is incorrect.

The P.I. began their sales as a 2013 model year only.

The 3.7 part is correct, as is the 3.5 GTDI powerplant.

Ford advertised them before 2013, and they appeared in said advertising as the body style(s) of the '10 through '12''s, but again, sales did NOT BEGIN UNTIL 2013.

Some background on why you bought an engine? Did you put a rod through the side of yours or something?

This is not likely any special police engine - it is the only reman engine option listed for a 2012 Lincoln MKS. If a MKS had an oil cooler, this engine should have one also. The MKS had non-PP final drive ratio.

This was interesting to research. First, it looks like a 2012 interceptor sedan IS a 2012 SHO AWD ecoboost 3.5L engine, PP spec, but no need to press a "sport" button. It rides like a curb-jumping cop car though.

You've got to supply your intake, exhaust, turbo, accessories, management etc. for these crate engines. This is a fix for a blown engine.

6006 is code for "Sealed Long Block". All reman engines use that code.

D1FZ-6006-DRM you can find below. It is not listed in the PI category.

PASdVU3

K5Zoo4U

You can see the new 2015-2017 police engine has a -B suffix, while the new 2015-2018 SHO engine has a -A suffix. There are no reman PI 3.5L engines. If you want a police engine for a 2015, you should have bought the FG1Z-6006-B, $6755, which may have only superficial or even incompatible changes - for accessories, for example. Or cams good for idling for a long time.

The three "qualifier" codes for the D1FZ, like 1S-490-DA, I couldn't find what they mean, but the 2011 EcoBoost has a similar part number to the first.

So did you get a police-specific engine?

No. Just a SHO/MKS, as printed on the box? - yes.

Did you get a PP engine?

Maybe no. A MKS is not a PP.

Did you get the right engine?

A new 2015-2018 3.5L EcoBoost has a different part number than a new 2011-2012 3.5L EcoBoost. No reman engine is listed for newer than 2012 (as of 2018), which might mean they haven't made them yet - or they are all relatively compatible.

What could be the difference in cop cars?

2012 PI is supposed to exist, but aside from reviews and test reports, I can find nothing officially from Ford. For the 2013 PI Sedan AWD 3.5L Ecoboost V6 we get the same SHO PP specs (just no need for a sport button):
HP: 365 @ 5,500
Torque 350 @ 1500 - 5250
Axle Ratio: 3.16:1 (same as PP, not the same as SHO/MKS with 2.77)
In a 2012 evaluation of police vehicles, 2012 PI is listed with heavy-duty 220A alternator, vs SHO 200A.

In the 2017 brochure, it hints the ecoboost V6 is "tuned exclusively for police operations" but this might be marketing hyperbole, or something only in the ECU. Or something that needs both the engine and the ECU.

Most of a "PP" is not the engine.

What does a "6006" reman crate engine come with (although you could just open the bag):

3.5L 4V:

  • Cylinder Block, Head(s),Crankshaft, Camshaft(s), Pistons,Rings, Bearings, Timing Gear(s) –Chain(s) or Belt, Oil Pump.
  • Oil and Filter, Spark Plugs
  • Oil Filter Adapter
  • Oil Cooler (all NEW crate engines come with cooler, remove if not needed)
  • Oil Pan
  • Installation Gaskets/Seals
  • Water Pump
  • Valve Covers
  • Thermostat
  • Front Cover
  • Front Seal
  • Crank Damper
  • Exhaust Manifold Gasket(s)
  • Exhaust Manifold Fasteners

Hope that was helpful, if not disappointing.

I took it as a sign to get the motor i actually wanted. My race shop works with ford racing components and they told me his ford racing rep said they can get a closed deck full forged 3.5l for the sho. Was almost 10k. We got no estimate of when it will be in but when it does ill post. As i want to see the engine when it comes in as i did with this one. I cant find the 3.5l engine on ford racings website but i do see the 4 cylinder ecoboosts so im not sure if its a shelf item or a made to order item. Thanks for the info, wish you woulda posted that the day i posted the pics haha. I was stressing out for a few days trying to get that sort of info online. Thanks

The police cars do have a pursuit mode in which they dont downshift around corners if memory servers?

So yes, even if the engine calibration is the same, a small tweak here and there could be touted ad police specific tuning I guess.

Yea my buddy is a local state trooper in Pa and they got the ecoboost interceptors when they came out. I rode around it in many times with him. They got the getup of a tune file from like livernois but im sure that a pp model with a tune is on par with the interceptor. The interceptor dosnt have the throttle lag of a stock sho and they just hammer down. Id like to see a stock interceptor run on a dyno to see how far off it is of a stock sho

Thats the engine i bought, but its coming directly from ford racing. I dont see much info on it though. Going off what i was told that it is a closed deck design for competition. I guess ill never know for sure unless i pop the head off when it comes in

Seems like the biggest build difference might be cams that give peaky torque instead of a wide torque band.

3.5L V6; 365 hp at 5000 RPM; 420 lb-fts. Torque at 2500 RPM; 10.0:1 Compression Ratio

Im not sure. Ill be working with Brad on a tune as we live within a few miles of each other. Id have to see what shop he rents time at with an awd dyno.

I was thinking the same thing, those are the numbers for the truck version.

For the people who cant read, the fitment section shows taurus and flex and the part number is different when added to cart as ford racing has a sub code at the end for rwd or fwd options.

I see the fitment section lists pretty much every ford vehicle that came with a v6. It even lists the regular taurus and that's certainly not accurate. I'm with the others on that being the wrong engine. I also see no difference when adding it to the cart

The image from the website has 2 vct solenoid connectors indicating RWD application only.

But pictures and the real deal are teo different things.
