Did anyone play with these engines in other applications with further upgrades? Sand rails? ect...

While I don't miss the overall disapointment with that engine in the chassis it came in. I did like the high reving powerband it had. It also sounded great.

Oh, For the record I had a 96 with Nitrous. Then had to get rid of it to cover the cost of making it operational again after a cam failure at 68k.

Many moons ago I saw either a Bricklin or GT 40 fiberglass kit car with a SHO V8 engine in it.
I think it was someone selling a project car on Ebay.

Probably 10 years ago. It got mentioned on V8SHO.com email list. No idea what became of it.

I rode recently on Wikipedia that Duratech 3.5L (Taurus Gen 5, SHO Gen 4, Ford Fusion, Ford Edge, etc.) can fit in any Ford vehicules with a 3.0L duratech which have the same bolting points as the 3.4 V8 probably. However, I recommand to confirm this info with a good mechanic. If yes, you can put a V8 without fitting on some Ford cars.

If yes, you can put a V8 without fitting on some recent Ford cars.

But why?

When the 3.5 EB motors are putting out more power/torque than the old V8's.

Seems completely pointless.

Unless you get crazy stupid with the modifications (I.E. the infamous Blue Turd for example).

Better off leaving the boosted 3.5 in it personally, and monkey around with that instead IMHO.

The goal wasn't to replace a 3.5L... :S

The goal was to replace anything like a 3.0 Duractech (200 hp) or better, the 3.0L Vulcain (150 hp).

However, +1 for Kevinspann, if bellhousing isn't the same, you have to keep the old 4 speeds trans too...

But his V8 is nitrous : some basic modifs + nitro = approximative power of 300 hp. Can be lot more interesting to drive than a 3.0L duratech in a Fusion ('06-'12).

Can we put this into a Ranger ? Ford put Vulcain into them but the engine orientation isn't the same.
Old Ford Prope (88-92) had the Vulcain too...

This motor can also fit into 3.8L Essex applications (150-190 hp)...
Ford Thunderbird /Mercury Cougar (82-97)
Ford Mustang (82-86 / 94-04)
Mercury Capri (82-86)
Any Taurus /Sable (88-06)

The Vulcan bellhousing is quite different from the v8 bellhousing.

The v8 bellhousing is pretty much the same as the duratec 2.5/3.0 (through 2009), it's close enough, but there are a couple holes that are placed slightly differently.

This also doesn't account for any differences in the crankshaft to input shaft distances, but it's something to be aware of.

Do you know if it's very different from the 3.8 ? Since the last post, I'm wondering if an old Mustang can have a V8 3.4L.

Don't forget Morana still sells upgraded Vulcan and 3.8L parts. The full stroker kit, naturally asperated, Vulcan from them is 300hp conservatively. A single turbo could easily get 70 or more out of that engine at 6-9psi. It won't be as advanced as the newer 3.5L SHO's, but would give them a run until the tranny lets go... Ya hoo!

Mustang shares the 3.8L V6, but no 3.4L v8.
