Ford will only build two cars!!

Well we have all been talking about this an things can always change but Ford has announced it will stop building all but two cars, in the future only the Mustang and a new Focus Active crossover coming out next year, everything else is gone, from that point on just trucks an SUV's. They did not specifically mention the Taurus or what they will do with the Lincoln line up but it does not look good. I kind of think because of Lincoln an all the commercial Police contracts they have maybe the Taurus will stick around for awhile, but that could be wishful thinking. Anyway thought you guys would like to know, maybe when they stop building them my car will be worth something.

I find this all very hard to believe. What the heck is the 20-something college student going to drive? Does the Honda Civic then become the defacto standard?

Is Ford having such a tough time competing with everyone else in the small-car market that they'd just roll over and die?

Plus, what is Ford thinking, that oil is going to be cheap forever? All we need is a war in the Middle East (larger than the current "exercises") and our own US-based oil companies will be climbing all over each other to sell oil to foreign countries, thereby making OUR fuel prices spiral out of control.

LMAO We are old, I don't know man, it still blows my mind the SHO's are not flying off the lot, they really are a great car especially if you want to buy an American sedan. I think the truth is, today most people don't have the same relationship with there cars older people do and they want is just transportation. They want all the bells an whistles BUT they really don't have the same visceral relationship with cars the way people used to.

Chevy recently stopped the "SS" sedan (not sure when, I don't keep up with (shudder) Chevies). The Taurus SHO is basically the only decent high-HP (or least flat torque-curve) American sedan. Chrysler/Dodge do have whatever that butt-ugly thing is, but it's not as fast as an SHO I don't think.

(side note: that "SS" sedan was almost(?) the same thing as the Pontiac G8 - which I actually saw one on the road the other day. I see more Taurus SHO's on the road than either of those).

Chevy SS was on my radar before the SHO. ‘17 was the last year, and they do hold their value, unlike the SHO. I also test drove KIA Candenza before

I saw it in the local news then did a Google ABC/MSN have articles posted, no specifics or time lines just a general statement on cost cutting, an future plans to build more trucks/SUV's.

Sure. But I mostly meant for the police and cab market. I have some police friends who really hate what they have to drive now. I'm sure there were solid reasons to retire the CV, but it was a really proven, reliable model for those markets.

They keep saying that the car market is going away, especially now that SUVs have nearly the same MPG.

There's an article today that the new Honda Accord has a 107 day supply on dealer lots, which is the most ever, they aren't selling either.

The Taurus has nearly $10k on the hood at large dealers just to move them. Hyundai is struggling with sales of their Genesis brand of cars. There does seem to be a fundamental shift underway.

Remember the Taurus announcement back in 2009, they didn't expect sales like in the past and they set expectations for the current Taurus to be a low volume car.

In the past when gas prices rocketed up, cars sold and they got attention, when the gas prices dropped, the attention shifted to SUVs. This time, SUVs get the same MPG, so shifts shouldn't really occur.

I own a 2015 5spd Focus Titanium, a 2014 5spd Fiesta SE 1.0 Ecoboost, and my 2010 SHO. They have all been great, trouble free cars. Guess they are soon to be relics of the past!

Question is... Do I buy one of the last 2019 SHO's?? (A ten year old car...)

I'm not a SUV fan, but that new Lincoln Aviator looks nice. Of course, so does the (4,600lb!) Genesis G80 Sport.

Fords police issue vehicle is more focused in the direction of the Explorer. The Taurus is being phased out.

As some of you know, I'm involved with advertising, web, video, etc...

I knew about a year ago that the writing was on the wall for the Fiesta, which didn't surprise me. The dealer I work with only stocks a few...much like the Flex and CMax. Same for Taurus. Oh yes, and Energi and Hybrid Fusions. Big incentives on the Fusion models right now...which tells me they're not selling, despite seeing them on the road.

All this is part of the reason I ordered my SHO. I wanted a big car...not an SUV or crossover, I'm sure like many of you. I did the same thing 13 years ago when I ordered a 2005 Excursion as they were going to be cancelled and I didn't want an Expedition. I still have the Excursion, now with 43,000 miles. It's also nice to have something different.

I really don't like the idea of not having cars to sell. I still think there's a market...but I understand the decision. When I bought my Taurus in December, there was $5000 in rebates on the car I ordered. I think it's up to $6000 right now in my market.

Your post is a little vague how exactly do you feel about them discontinuing the Taurus, LOL-

Its about about the numbers, we really cant complain because American sedans are not selling, It seems like when Americans can afford a nice car they go out an buy a high end European model. I am going to be real interested to see what Lincoln an Cadillac do, there way out of my price range but there building some real nice cars especially Cadillac.
My conundrum now is, I almost have mine how I want it BUT I'm at almost 60,000 miles, Do I try and find one with lower miles while there still out there an affordable so I have one I can keep for a long time or just just hope the one I have now stays in good shape. This really sucks, LOL For a retired sailor I am not very good with change.
