Well, as the title asks...at what exterior temperature does the SHO turn on the seats and steering wheel when using remote start?

Tonight, I got into the car and it was about 40 degrees F. The car ran for at least a few minutes, I opened the trunk....and a minute or later, I opened the driver's door and got in. I don't think the seats or steering wheel were on....but the HVAC was running correctly. Could opening the trunk turn off the heated seat and wheel?

When I got home, I tested it twice and it seemed to work OK.

I know these have worked before...but perhaps it wasn't quite as warm outside as it is now....glad for your thoughts!

Runs off last settings before key off.

Nope this is not 100% correct. The owners manual says if you had heat on on shut off and you remote start the car and it turns on the heat seats it will keep the heat on or vice versa.

On auto I will tell you 100% that the climate controlld seats will come on full heat at 32 degrees. Full cold at 80 degrees. In between. I dunno. The steering wheel is about 32 as well.

Last settings is just that.

Thanks...I wonder if (during a remote state event) if the interior temperature plays a role in how much the seats warm or cool? Meaning, if it's 40 outside, but the interior from sitting in the sun is in the 50s....

I do have all that set to "Auto".

My understanding is it looks at ambient temp for the seats. Although there is an interior temp sensor I'm not aware of it using it for seat operation. It just uses it for controllng
Interior HVAC setting.

The more I learn about stuff, the more I learn about the things we ARE NOT told about...

This sounds interesting. My seats and steering wheel only come on when I hit the buttons to turn on. When I shut the car off and leave the heat on it will automatically start warming up, but not the seats or steering wheel. Maybe different years do it on last setting?

No idea at what temperature the seats come on. The steering wheel is electric, so I don't think that matters.

All I know is.... if I have the seat heaters and wheel on when I turn off the car, they will both be on when I enter the car after remote starting it, as will the heat. I usually let the car warm for at least 5 minutes before getting in it.

My 17 acts different than my 15 did. As in, it's erratic. I have had it set to "Auto" since I picked it up in December. Some cold days I get in and heat is blowing, but the wheel and seats are ice cold. Other days (less often than the alternative) everything is working. I seriously think the car is possessed. I have a service coming up. I plan to point this out. The auto heated seats/ wheel and auto cool seats was a major factor in the purchase of this car. My 15 always worked, every time as it should have.

Do you notice if your outside air temp reads acuratly? This isn' a live reading, but is a filtered temperature provided by the ambient air temp sensor (little black thing in the grill) that is used to determine what to do with seats and steering wheel. You could have a bad module too.

I was about to post the same exact thing...also a 17 never had another model year to compare against I thought wacky was just the norm. Let me know if the service finds anything.

Yes...in my 2006 Lincoln the sensor is in a similar location. If the car was facing into the sun, for example, it would sometimes display an erratic temp until the car moved...then it would correct.

Makes me wonder if a parked SHO's radiator, etc would allow the temp sensor to "think" the ambient temp is higher than it really is...and not allow the auto features to work correctly...

I haven't noticed the temperature being off honestly. Now that I know this info, I will keep a closer eye on it. I've been parking outdoor and the temps have been below freezing off and on lately. Definitely not working correctly.

I will update the thread post service. Should be this month.

This has been programed into the system and why the ambient temp will update fast when temp drops, but takes a while when it warms up.

Also the faster you drive the faster it updates becase you'e not getting as much radiant heat.

So when ou hit the key. The PCM sees the right temp. But the displyed temp may still show what was previously displayed unless the car has a sufficent cold soak.
