PP's have different pistons and rings than non-PP. The reason is that these are police interceptor motors, designed to idle for a half hour then go to wide open throttle indefinitely. Ceramic is one of the premium materials. Can't divulge any more.
If you have a pp, you will have different limits than a non PP. Also, since earlier this year, all blocks now have fine thread main bearing caps, much stronger, though it will only apply to Flex, F150 and Explorer sport. Still something to consider during a rebuild.
Are the pistons from the F150? What makes them special if you are at liberty to say?

I call shenanigans. How is this the first most of us are hearing about this? Many of us research things like this to the point of exhaustion and I've not heard this before.

I doubt they really pull different INTERNAL parts when putting together the PP motor.. Externally they put the extra oil and PTU cooling bits, special brakes that pull the pads away from the rotors, etc. and that all makes sense but internals are another story.

Police Interceptor Taurus' come with 3 different engines. Do they all have improved internals? I doubt it or Fords Police Marketing would be shouting it from the rooftops. They tell you every other technical improvement, why not this?

Police interceptors with turbo motors or PP package SHO's, for sure have the improved pistons. I asked in-house before I ordered my car, but wanted adaptive cruise too much to get the better pistons and gearing.

Someone send me a VIN of thier Non-PP '13+ SHO and I'll have my parts guy check part numbers of pistons & rings vs. mine that's a PP. Should be different #' s, I'd assume if this is true...

And I've got the VIN of an Interceptor to compare, too....

Try this VIN: 1FAHP2KT6DG142079

Kit
BL3Z-6148-C
Individual
BL3Z-12A227-A

These are what I find in relation to piston ring numbers off of the fordpartsgiant.com website. Let's see what your parts guy has to say!

I'll look into this tomorrow afternoon @ work! Thanks!
Oh ye of little faith..
I have multiple photos of each piston, but it might get too crowded
Part numbers taken directly off of each piston follow:
Police (PowerPack)
Right side: DA5E-6K100-AA
Left side: DA5E-6K101-AA

[/IMG]
Standard piston for all but police
Right side: AA5E-6K100-JA
Left side : AA5E-6K101-JA
The only visible difference, other than the part number on top of each piston, is a discoloration around the top ring - proprietary!

My friend that's a Master Ford tech said 550hp , based on a class he had to go to for transmissions.

Obviously, there are a few out there putting down more than that.

My discussions with Ford Execs, one who's in marketing now, but played an instrumental part in the development & launch of the Eco platform back in the day, stated in personal conversation that their own internal testing of the 6F55 Trans did not begin exhibiting failures until at/or around, the 720bhp threshold.

Now I didn't ask, and nor was it volunteered what those failures were exactly, but suffice it to say, that's the target range to avoid.

Also the reason why I have only run the "milder" or rather "lower" tune file of 525awhp, as that calculates out to approx 680bhp.

I'm just under that limit, & still performing fine (knock on wood) after 72k on the clock.

I'm confident I'm on borrowed time though, and will inevitably look at upgrading it at some point.

But until such time, rock on!
