Picked up a '93 for a price I couldn't pass up. Car "just wouldn't start one day... four years ago" Hooked up some jumper cables and heard it crank over. I'm guessing the problem is the crank position sensor. It's been sitting outside, withering away, but isn't in too bad shape considering. Should I do anything to the engine to prep it for potentially running, any tips for diagnosing? I'm new to the SHO and 4V engines.

You have already rolled it over so this advice is not as valuable as it could have been. Put a small amount of oil or tranny fluid in the front 3 spark plug holes. Do the back 3 if you have the time and universals for your spark plug wrench. If not, fog in oil in a spray while it is rolling over to get everything lubed.
The rest is the same for starting any car.
Have a look to make sure nothing is chewed off, the little animals like the spark plug wires for some reason, and take a good look, as something will probably be nibbled-off if it was outside and stationary.

Thanks sperold. I'll keep this updated. Where's the best place to buy a CPS? My local parts store has one, but it's not Motorcraft.

also expect the injectors to be gummed up from sitting with the current crappy gas in them for 4 years. they might not be, but consider that a bonus if it turns out that way. I would plan on an injector flush.

Check the air filter box for rodent nests before you start it. CPS choices are not what they once were; I think all the available ones look pretty much identical and probably come from the same manufacturer.

Anyone looking for a 3.2 that runs great and has a "newer" rebuilt transmission. Frame is rotting away from body, so my brother has decided to move on. I'm the mechanic that worked on it and can give more info. (in Wisconsin)

That frame issue can be remedied, depending on what access your have to equipment like welders. Any pictures?

Pulled all the plugs today and got fogging oil in the cylinders. Put a spark plug tester on one and confirmed no spark. Started getting the engine torn down for CPS replacement, but then I found out that the part got sent to Oklahoma and won't be here for a week. I'll report back later.
Fantastic news, found out my sunroof still works, so at least I can push the car outside and bask in the cold Missouri winter.

Well looks like the water pump failed and got coolant on the CPS. I've heard that a common failure for these cars? Pump is pretty much locked up solid. WvZ5aQFl

Oh Man, that is nasty,
I've had three of my girls in storage this winter and am already looking forward to getting them out, but it'll be another two and a half months. What did you use to "fog" in some oil into the cylinders?

BTW:

CPS=Camshaft Position Sensor
CKS=Crankshaft Position Sensor

There is a weep hole on the bottom of the waterpump housing that leaks onto the CKS area when they fail.
