Well my '95 mustang GT comes stock with around 220 HP 5.0, which is pretty lackluster as well. But we all know how the EFI 5.0 can be drastically upgraded just by simple GT40 series bolt-ons and decent headers, catalyst removal...

Was the SHO v8 designed the same way, insofar that the lower HP is due to very restricted flow? I read it has inherent balance issues because of the 60 degree angle...besides the strange cam design, it's a fascinating engine, I need to read more on it.

It isn't the heads that are restrictive. They're designed for max air flow from the get go. It's the intake design that kills the power in these engines. And yeah, it uses a balance shaft because of the compact angle.

Speaking of Volvo's, their V-8 is related to this engine.

Hello All...well I got everything installed and back together. But there is something I must say, and I mean it from the very depths of my soul.....WHO THE F$#K DESIGNED THAT OIL PAN?!? It's brilliant, and highly annoying all at the same time. Typical Yamaha and/or Ford.

I mean that the whole sender unit is leaking through the center of the bolt, so I'd have to spend 100 dollars, or just find a regular bolt. I guess Lowe's would be a good bet. It seems like an odd size to me, though

Not sure. The housing won't leak if the switch isn't installed.

?????

The "bolt" is a hollow plug that has a plastic housing with o-ring seals around it on all of the ones I have had apart. The plastic housing is where the sensor sits. If you pull out the plastic housing with the sensor in it you have a hole in the side of the pan.

Yup... I did that over the weekend, however, I just welded up the bolt and put it back in. No leaks now :) I was contemplating repairing the sensor, but to me it wasn't worth it. Oil level sensors are pretty useless in my book, since I check the oil level of all my vehicles at least twice a week.

Are you sure? I thought the insert inside the the pan is sealed.

Yeah, if you take out the oil level sensor, you're basically taking out another oil drain plug, albeit a slightly higher one, so you won't drain all the oil out.
