i have read all that i could on the subframe swaps and i didnt want to write on a 7 year old thread so...... i have easy access to 2000 and newer taurus and i was wondering if those subframes will work considering how hard it is to find a gen 3 in NY that isnt completely rusted out.

i read that the calipers and brackets from a 2000+ will work?

was the vz steering rack only offered in the 96-99 SHO's??

do i use Gen II front struts?

is it best to use (4) new gen III rear subframe bushings? (street driving only)

thanks

Joe

any caliper bracket with "FN74" on it will work, along with any caliper that fits that bracket.

you use the front struts you have now, but you need the spindles from the G3.

you will also need new outer tie rod ends.

I recommend 4 of the G3 rear subframe bushings.

Yes The subframes will work up through 07.

All of the brake options for 94+ Taurus will fit. The calipers are clocked a little differently, but you should be okay with 11.6 brakes

The ZF rack was only in the 96-99 SHOs yes

Gen 2 front struts

Yes, 4 rear gen 3/4 Taurus bushings.

Nope, all SLO subframes should work the same.

Newest Taurus with FN74s would probably be 07.

OK thanks for all the info. I plan on keeping this car so should I get new Moog wheel hub assemblies so I don't have to worry on the future, or is this overkill?

You can even use the DN101 Caliper Brackets if you want to use smaller rotors (those and the FN74's are your 2 choices on a 2000+ Taurus).

On the 2000+ Taurus Subframes, the front mount stud location is a little different and requires a bit more modification to the front mount hole, so be aware.

OK thanks, I think I want to try and stick with the larger rotors. I am not worried about modifications I have a nice mig welder lol

the Mark VIII and Thunderbird Sport came equipped with the same 11.6" rotors.
they use the same style caliper brackets. they look slightly different, but function the same.
it is possible some Cougars also came with those 11.6" brakes as well.

Has anyone used the rear subframe bushings from a 04 or newer? I can get the 04 and up bushings for a 1/3 of the cost of the older ones

Yes, the rear subframe bushings are all the same from 96-07 - use the rear bushings at all 4 corners.

i would really like to use the ZF rack, i can locate a used one fairly cheap, advance auto parts showed a listing for a new one $230 can they be trusted that its actually the ZF rack? should i just get a used one and ask the yard to include all the lines and cooler?

thanks again everyone, i will post some pictures once i start getting everything

i believe the 93 SC would have still had the 10.8" rotors.
although i am not certain.
a tape measure will confirm or deny that.

I would double-check the part number against the regular Taurus rack - only the SHO got the ZF rack, iirc, so if the part number is the same as the regular Taurus part then you know it is wrong. There are a lot of those type of listings where the parts store computer thinks the SHO part is the same as the slo part, when in reality it is not...
