I just finished dumping the fluid out of the catch pan and found aside from a few pieces of metal and a decnently long strip from something an e-clip. overall it's about 3/8 inch in diameter and the damn thing still runs and shifts fine... Is it supposed to go somewhere and got dislodged or am I going to be forever curious about how it got into my trans?

Yup, there is...or was in your case. I don't remember the exact name, but it holds on this lever...

you can possibly survive a while without the clip on the 5th gear arm, but I think the reverse arm will come off pretty quickly without the clip.

so, yes, it is something you should be concerned about.

btw, the reverse arm is not installed correctly in the pic that kevinspann posted.

5th gear is sometimes a bit tricky... how the **** does this clip just come off though?

and I was trying to get away with not dropping the subframe or replacing the clutch until I after I get back from my deployment.
