Perhaps, but even if that's true, it still needs a tranny oil change, so I'll do what I can with it for now, instead of doing nothing at all until I can do the big stuff.

Someone posted in a thread somewhere a guide to changing the clutch. It was broken down into 14 steps or somewhere in that neighborhood, but different than the one that's stickied under "How-To." Anyone remember where that was, or who posted it? It was recently I believe, then again, it could just have been recently that I saw it. I couldn't find it after searching :(

That's such a bummer, because you made it sound so much less complicated than the sticky thread in the how-to. The b/f is scared that it'll be $1500 in tools just to do it. Is it really feasible? At this point, I'm starting to feel like I'm just going to have to sell it to someone who can do the clutch and buy something else. I can't afford to buy another car, can't afford to be without one, and can't afford to pay someone to replace it. I'm really not positive on what I should do with it at this point, assuming tranny oil doesn't magically fix that grinding, which at this point, I don't think it will.

www.shonutperformance.com sells an instructional video (or atlest they used to) for changing the clutch. It takes you step by step and even comes with written instructon that include a tool list. It is what I used when I had never done a clutch swap before. If you research and try to be prepared it can go fairly well the first time. Have you contacted any California people to see if they could lend a hand? Maybe make it a meet of some kind. Or see if a forum member would be willing to do it as a side job.......they would probably charge less and have more sho knowledge than a regular shop.

As far as expensive tools...you would need an engine support (which can be bought or built,,,,in the video), a big prybar for popping out the ball joint and a torch of some kind (propane is cheap and will work). I would also recommend having an air compressor and impact gun. If you don't have access to one a rental place probably would have one you could rent.

yeah, a couple hundred in tools is all it will be - the engine support, some good jack stands, a good jack, and a weekend.

So, maybe it's not a $1500 just for the tools project. The video is something I will absolutely get. I wish there was a way to pay to download it online so I could see what I was getting into before I get into it, but I guess I'll have to wait to have it shipped. The "how-to" in the sticky just made it sound so scary. Is that the easiest way to do it? I have noticed with this car that there always seems to be more than one way to skin a cat.
