Step one: Don't buy one from a rust belt state. Rust and rot is more expensive to repair than mechanical items.

Step two: Find a nice rust free car from a southern state.

Step three: Email [email protected] for help in transporting said rust free southern car to CT. Kirk does a lot of transporting, usually to southern states and back.

Spend the money on a car thats already done.

Im just going to throw this out there again... ah **** it.

There ain't no "might" for a Northern car. Or even a midwestern car. I have a parts car from Illinois originally - there is probably as much rocker panel in a rusty pile on the ground, as there is on the car.

CT, if you are serious about finding a good project candidate, you will need a rust free specimen.

And looking at you location, that means you will have to travel.

Unfortunate, but true.

What you don't want in your SHO: Rust in the rocker panels or around the gas cap or brake lines, Pull the dipstick before the test drive and look/smell the oil if its been improperly maintained you'll be able to tell. When you get it replace: Rod bearings, plugs, wires & VC gasket/plug well seals and the Y-pipe for fun:) Good luck

I don't get why you would willingly go buy a project car in CT that has rust. The amount of money that it would cost you down the road will be 10 times as much as you paid for the car. Travel and get one that is rust free if only to save yourself the time and hassle. It will cost you a lot less in the future and you won't be kicking yourself in the ass every time you have to work on it.

Post #8 sounds like good advice if the budget allows. Have the car gone over, and bring all the maintenance up to date, and that usually means a clutch in the MTX, or the automatic in an ATX.
They are then, ultra dependable and trouble free.
