I have a 92 with 134,000 on it and it's throwing codes 212 and 217. I have replaced all of the following, coil pack and it's connector, DIS module, battery cables, plugs, wires. I can't seem to locate the problem i checked the grounds on everything i know of. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

212 - spout circuit grounded - this is likely a wiring harness issue, something has a short. most all of that circuit is on the back side of the engine connecting to the pcm.

217 - coil 3 primary failure - in my experience this is more likely a dis issue than a coil pack issue. did you put on a used or new dis?

I thinks theres 3 options out there.

-Your new dis is also crap

-Your dis is missing one of the bolts or one is loose. all 4 needs to be tight.

-your coil pack took a dump on you.

What did you use behind the dis? Did you put some kind of compound?

i did put dielectric grease on the dis before install and the coil is new it only had the 217 code before i replaced the dis and now it has the 212 and 217 codes showing and i do have all four bolt in and tight this is why i'm baffled

I'm gonna take it back and get another one and we'll see... had a mechanic buddy say that he thought it might be the CPU what do you think?

Very important to use heat-sink thermal compound behind the DIS, not dielectric grease. Radio Shack PN 28-1098 is a good choice.

The PCM going bad on our cars is EXTREMELY rare. You should ignore this until you are way further down the diagnostic road.

Where in AZ are you? There are some good people scattered about that might be able to help.
