Average of 17.2 miles per gallon on the first tank of gas 91 octane, this seems a little low to me. The mix was about 30/70 city to highway. 2010 SHO 14,500 miles

91 octane? Fill it up with 93. I usually get about 20-21 with city/hwy but I am running Livernois stage 2. I believe the tune helped get another mile or two per gallon.

I've been averaging between 23-24 combined driving. If I drive like there's an egg under the pedal I can get up to 28-29. I am running Livernois Stage 4 and using 93 octane. Stage 4 tune actually improved mileage over Stage 2.

Sorry I meant 93 octane from BP, I've also notice a hesitation first thing in the morning, I need to get a copy of the service history.

My 2011 with Livernois Level 4+ tune gets 24 mpg all day under normal driving and I have never been under 20 mpg with the heavy foot.

Getting 20 - 24 combo. Just returned from a trip to NYC and back with a few stops along the way over a 4 day period and averaged 27.9 MPG. Highway speed on cruise was 71 mph and there were 4 adults and luggage. Probably grossed about 5,100 lbs.

In my book that is amazing milage!!

Chuck,

Be sure to check your wires for chaffing on an earlier build SHO. http://www.shoforum.com/showthread.php?t=118283

If it seems to be getting worse of you think you hear a bunch of air being released it could be a knock sensor wire chaffing and picking up false knocks which then causes the car to de-tune itself robbing you of power and gas mileage and can be perceived as hesitation.

I will say when I had this problem it was so bad that I was lucky to average 15MPG and had a severe lack of power (maybe felt like 175HP). Now that I'm all better I can get 26-27 HWY@ no greater than 70 MPH and I average 21-22 city/hwy. I will say that once you go over 70 your MPG drop dramatically unless you're drafting behind a larger profile vehicle like a pickup or a semi.

Checked the wires and yes there's some chaffing I can't tell if it's worn all the way thru but I will wrap them after the rain stops. Thanks, Had it for one week and already working on it, Geez I got at least a couple of years before I had to do any work on my other SHO's

I usually drive my car to arrive to a certain mpg. My goal is to obtain 18mpg at the end of each tank. BTW I rarely put more than half a tank... I like to keep the car the lightest possible (I put back the spare only because it isolate the droning from custom exhaust. lol). So, if I see that towards the end I am around 20 mpg, I allow my self to press on the pedal a few times and bring it to around 18mpg. That way, I know I am not abusing of the car all the time and it keeps it reasonable on the expenses...
I run stage 4 and recently 4+ (which holds boost longer, but has torque management). If I do highway at 65 mph, I get 29mpg. The best mileage I got is when driving in a construction zone for about 3 miles on flat at around 40-45mph with an egg under the pedal, I got a 33mpg! But I am rarely that patient with that much power available, so it goes rapidly back to the aimed average...
And when driving in town, being very gentle on the gas, I can get a best of 17mpg.
Finally, when drove normally, with no WOT but not too slow neither, my car gets around 21mpg. It is a 2010 SHO with now 31Kmiles on it...

Interesting discussion. I drive mostly city with a smidgen of highway on the way to/from work. I feel like the computer will show 19 mpg if I am really luck, usually less though. Today for fun though I set the adaptive cruise at 65 and drove to work...this resulted in my average going up 3 mpg to 22. Drove home normal and it went back down. Overall and in general I am not real thrilled with the mileage on this thing. I use 91 octane and have never ever seen anything higher for sale.

Have you reset it recently? If you don't reset, it will take much longer to give you your true numbers.

I get pretty bad mpg compared to the rest of you as well. I use an app for my phone to track my mileage and both that and the car show me getting just under 20. Highest octane I can get is 91 and the mileage seems to be the same whether its in city, highway, really mashing the gas or babying it. I've done some pretty long trips and cruising at 75-80, all highway, I might see 21-22.

I just got back from a road trip that was about 340 miles each way. On the way there I averaged 26.4 mpg according to the car which was half a weeks' worth of clothes, a full suspension mountain bike in the trunk with two set of bike wheels and tires, some misc. "toys", and used the A/C the whole way running 70 mph for most of it. On the way home I had basically the same items but was running 75 mph most of the way and averaged 25.7 mpg.

In town for my short drives to and from work I usually accelerated aggressively and expect to get around 15.8 mpg typically.

Just went to Vermont over the weekend the computer showed 27.1 mpg with the cruise set @75. 215 miles each way with four people in the car running 91 octane.

Driving the Interstates at 70-75 w cruise and AC on loaded w baggage etc over 600 miles-my DIC (no its the Driver Information Center-or whatever Ford calls it-I like DIC), shows me at 27-28 running 93 or 92 if 93 not available. This is also after reset as I enter the IState This is pretty good for a heavy auto with AWD-at least I am not unhappy. Friends Avalon gets about 29-30-same driving. Of course not running 93. Like my performance better. In town and every day town/highway mix I am anywhere from 18-23 depending on mix. Now lets see with th tune i hear/read that mileage goes up-Hmmm-more performance better mpg. May be a reason. Not a good one but any is better than none.

LOL, yeah please edit that post.:)

Mileage on a long trip this past weekend was a pleasant surprise:

33.6 miles per Imp. gallon. = 28 miles per US gallon.

That's on a 500 mile trip, 90% hwy. speed limit and no 'fun'.:)
