I'm wanting to replace my stock 1994 radio/tape player with another stock one but if I can't I'll have to go new. How hard is it to connect into the existing wiring for a new AM/FM radio CD player? Any wiring diagrams out there to look at? Thanks....

WalMart (or any auto parts store) has wiring harness adapters and mounting adapters just for this job. The wiring harness plugs directly into the stock plug behind the dash, and each wire coming out of it is color coded and usually labeled right on the wire. You can usually wire the new radio to the wiring adapter on your kitchen table so you're not messing with wires in the car.

The wiring kits for premium sound or JBL will have an amplifier bypass wiring harness and instructions. This gets installed in the trunk to bypass the factory amplifiers. You don't absolutely NEED to bypass them, but most new head units put out decent power and are cleaner (acoustically) than a 15 year old factory amp. Also, you'll end up pushing more power into the factory amps than they saw from the original stereo.

The mounting brackets are usually pretty straightforward, but if it's your first time make sure to double check which plastic tabs to snap off of the adapter.

Ok need more help. I did buy a new Sony radio C/D player and also bought the wiring harness adaptor kit. It has two adaptors in it. One with the power, ground, etc wires, but no speaker wires. And then the other adaptor has all 8 of the speaker wires. But only one can be plugged into the cars radio plug in.
I think I've found the speaker wires in a cable that went into the back of the radio. It has 8 wires but the colors don't match the 8 colors of the speaker wires coming out of the radios wiring.
If these are the 8 speaker wires how do I find out which colors match up with the new radios 8 speaker wires, 2 purple, two white, two gray and 2 green. The wires I think are the speaker wires are 1 green, 1 yellow, 1 blue, 1 brown, 1 purple white, 1 blue black, 1 white orange, 1 white red.
Please help....Thanks yall.

You're pulling the factory radio, right? The colors on the factory probably won't match the aftermarket colors, which were standardized after your car was made, if I remember correctly. There should be a set of plugs you disconnect from the factory stereo. The kits are designed to be plug and play, with no splicing of the factory harness. If they don't match it's possible you don't have the correct kit.

Can you post pictures of the plugs from the wiring harness and the plugs from the factory stereo? Also, what factory system do you have? Premium or JBL? Factory subwoofer? That might help track down the culprit.

You should be able to use the factory amp. Should simply be plug in play as long as you wire in the amp turn on wire. i have an after market head unit and haven't had the time or money to replace it.

I'm in the same boat as RAYJAY...I'm replacing the factory JBL system with a new receiver/amfm/cd player and bypassing the amp. I received my wiring kit from Crutchfield today, but am having a problem pulling the stock receiver. I have the Ford radio removal tool, but the radio won't budge. I've removed the lower trim piece, but still the radio will not come out.
I used the tool on my wife's Explorer and the radio popped right out...any help out there?
Thanks..Joe

sometimes it will take a good bit for force and wiggling to get them to come out. Im NOT recommending a weight lifting course to do it, just simply a firm pressure and a slow even side to side motion should get her to come. if not you may need to remove the Cd player/ash tray/coin holder/drink holder (or whatever accessory you have below the radio) to be able to slide your hand in back to be able to push it out.
