Borla has been one of my favourite aftermarket exhausts. They make one fine piece.
So is the sound much different from stock, any excessive resonating or droning, and is the sound more or less 'invisible' at cruising speeds?

Thanks, and congrats on the Borla -- I'll bet you love it.

Yes, Yes, Yes, Depends and Yes. Ha ha

The Borla exhaust totally changes the character of the car. It's like a Mountain Lion next to a house cat. Sounds great at start up with deep throaty sound like I had with my Mustang GT. On take off it sounds great up to about 2500 rpm where I start having some issues with it. Start to feel reverbs in that area if I'm going slow. On fast starts its a beast and sounds amazing all the way through the rpm scales. Literally sounds like a high end race car and not a hot rod rice burner like some exhausts on the SHO do.

When cruising, if the engine is not working hard there is very little noise. If it is working against the wind or uphill then you get the dreaded droan depending on the rpms. You can get rid of it by manual downshifting.

I'm going back to the muffler shop today to see if they can do any tuning to it to get rid of the slow start 2500 rpm reverbs. It shakes the car sometimes and it doesn't sound right. I don't hear it in the video posted above by the other guy who has the Borla. If you listen to that video with a good quality stereo system you can hear the exhaust much better than just using computer speakers. There is a night and day difference. I don't hear the reverbs on his take off so this may be an individual thing and I'm not hearing any droan on his cruising speeds. I'll keep you posted in what I find out.

First impressions are these are some serious SHO changing pipes that sound amazing on fast starts or at idle. I'll keep you posted on the rest. If anyone has any ideas let me know.

Forgot to mention that I also have Unleashed Tuning Stage 3 Tune and Airaid CAI installed. Haven't broke into the 4s yet on my 0-60 times, but it definitely
squawks rubber going to second gear and jumps like a barrel horse.

Ok just got back from the muffler shop. The boss thought at first the issue was with the combo of the Airaid intake and the Borla creating a certain resonance at low rpms. We put the car back on the hoist and checked for an other issues and the sound is definitely coming from the tips.

I called Borla and talked to their head tech (Don). He was great and wants to help me get this figured out. They are mailing me some type of pipe to fit just behind the mid muffler to try to change the frequency of the wave to adjust the sound at the low end. Should be here mid next week. I'm not going to post any sound clips until I get this tuned right. The reverb we were getting in the shop started around 1800 rpm and went up to 2500 rpm area. It would be ******* the ears long term and I can't afford that in my career.

Are you referring to the video from the interior of the car, or is there another one that I missed?

Yes there is a video of the Borla from inside the car on this forum and on YouTube. If you use a high quality sound system to play this back it sounds much better and you can appreciate the Borla exhaust much better. I can't hear much on my computer but on my self powered recording studio speakers (Hafler) it sounds great and you can appreciate the deep throaty sound.

I'll definitely get some sound clips up though as soon as I get it where I want it. Just finished a ride with a friend who is big on racing exhausts and he thought it sounded great and said the sounds I'm hearing are normal for these exhausts. Sounds great from the outside of the car either way and is a sure head turner/***** dropper.

I was looking at the Neosho custom exhaust with the mid muffler removed. I'm wondering if this increases sound levels at the tips? I might be able to use part of that mod here if this next step doesn't work. The annoying sound I'm getting is around 1800-2500 rpm in 2nd and 3rd gears. Goes right through me and even gets my windows shaking/chattering. Funny how I asked for a racing exhaust sound and I got more than I bargained for. Haha

Good point on the speakers. One needs a decent system to get the full effect especially the deep lows.

I found "the other guy" on You Tube and it's Way2Evil who has the Borla and his system does sound very good -- about what I'd expect from Borla

Please keep us up on your developments.

both sound really good to me. Wish we knew if it's good for a few ponies and ft. lbs. or not.

I doubt it. Torrie at Unleashed Tuning didn't think we would see much in performance gains with any exhaust system. Most of the performance gain will be in the tuning.

That's been the consensus here too.
A little hard to justify $1k to $1.5k for a little rumble but it does sound real good.

Sounds like a plan. I'm interested in how that turns out and how much you spend on it including time. (if you don't mind sharing).
Cheers,
C.
