I forgot to show a pic of the final install. My only worry is that the exhaust system seems to be sitting MUCH lower than the OEM exhaust did. I will get my mechanic to check this out on Monday......

Haha, believe it or not, all that filth was amassed in only 3 days of driving on our city streets right now! It's driving me crazy how dirty everything is!

LOL, I'd settle for any SHO right now, dirty, clean or anywhere in between......:)

No worries, Andrew....Guys in Buffalo haven't seen a real winter in years. I think it went down to like freezing a couple times this winter and almost no snow.:munch:

JK, HRKid....I know your winters can be brutal.. much worse than ours just north of you.......

Very pleased to hear that the exhaust went on easily Andrew......40 minutes is exceptional ... your tech must be have some skillzzz..

Great to hear that Magnaflow didn't disappoint. I would expect that from them and have loved them in the past.

Strange about the piping sitting down somewhat.....Maybe a clearance issue or a small adjustment...... Shouldln't be hard to locate and fix.

Hope you find a cam soon -- I'd love to hear that bad boy bark (and purr)...

Cheers,
C.

My Corsa is still looking for a good home. :)
I would definitely make you an offer if you were to come in Montreal or this side of the border.. Who knows, maybe this summer, we have a lot of festivals going on during summer (Jazz fest, Blues fest, Just for laugh, International fireworks, etc.). Let me know if there is a possibility.

Thanks

Hey Zeus, I don't recall my Magnaflow sitting that low to the ground. Hmmm.... You may want to recheck everything underneath. I also tacked welded the pipes together right before they split to the mufflers. It was hard to get a video of mine but I was finally able to also. See if yours sounds the same as mine. (can't imagine it would be different though really) How do you like it thus far?

Does the Magnaflow keep the 3rd cat? It looks like it does. I'm looking at the Borla, but am waiting to get a decent exterior sound clip... looks like it isn't going to happen though. After these posts, I will be also checking out Magnaflow.

Really like the way the Magnaflow sounds. Not too raspy, very subtle.

If the Exhaust sits too low, it can be adjusted upwards by supporting it and then loosening the various clamps. then you push everything up as far as possible without anything touching the bottom of the vehicle. Anyway, that's how I did it on my G8 GT.

Yes Mike, it keeps the 3rd cat. You have to cut part of the factory exhaust so you can reuse the existing flanges to mate up to the motor. And I just looked at mine, Zeus it does need to be adjusted. Mine is nowhere near as low as yours is. Simple fix though.

Yeah it is sitting too low so I'll get my guy to adjust it next week... haven't been on the forum for awhile now because of a huge increase in work. Oh well, going to Vegas tomorrow so the overtime was worth it! ;)
As far as the sound of the Magnaflow, I do like it a lot. I'm noticing a bit of drone around the 50 mpg range though however it hasn't bothered me too much and tends to go away if I speed up or slow down a bit.
All in all, so far so good. I'll definitely get a sound clip up when I get back from Vegas next week.

Just to clarify the OEM setup: Does the OEM exhaust come from the manifolds and go back into a single pipe (to the catalytic that is reused) and then into two pipes that run back to the rear?

Would two pipes straight back (true dual) not produce better sound and power possibly with and X? (Of course it would be more expensive and cost a few pounds too with 2 cats but wouldn't more power and better sound be worth the extra $$$?)

From what I've read, these aftermarket exhausts don't add much power on the SHO, if any at all; just some sweet sounds.

I'm asking since my SHO is still a 'NO-SHO' so I can't look myself.

TIA.
C.

Duals thru stock cats.. Then there is a 3rd cat that blends the duals and exits into 2 pipes that both go in and out of a mid muffler (the Magnaflow system also has this mid-muffler) and continues as duals to tips. Guess the 3rd cat works as sort of an x-pipe.

The stock cats, just after turbos are somewhat restrictive as they have a sharp bend just in front of them.

I am doing what you say in the next couple weeks. NESHO (Kirk) has a complete system like you describe. They sell the mid-section separately. I am adding it to my Brick. It will eliminate the mid-muffler & 3rd cat, and include an x-pipe.

But... because of turbos and restrictive design of stock cats, there is not much potential gain in any catsback exhaust from everything I've read. Just... lots of "NOISE FLUFF!"

Interesting, Bob. So instead of a performance exhaust, replace 3rd cat with a X pipe? Sounds like a very cost effective idea.

I have to agree with you, all of the catbacks that I have had (including custom built) never improved performance, usually just changed a single exhaust to dual exhaust.

I believe your idea of a custom built dual exhaust is the best way to improve exhaust performance. BTW, is there any benefit from changing from the stock exhaust manifold to headers? Or is there really no benefit because of the turbocharging...I'm just not very familiar with the technology of turbocharging and exhaust dynamics.

I plan to do the X pipe in place of the 3rd cat, then straight into 2 separate straight through mid mufflers, then open pipes all the way to the tips. Im sure the stock cats are restrictive, but the 3rd cat and the other 3 mufflers probably restrict flow pretty good as well.

does anyone know the size of the stock exhaust piping? What size x pipe is needed? 2.25", 2.5"?

That's should be sweet, Bob......and maybe just enough to get you that tenth you need.
Can't wait to hear that for sure.

We talking about $1k or closer to $2k? for the complete system?
