Yes, Livernois actually wants to know the octane to do your custom tune.

That is correct, we can tune for 91 octane as well.

So this tune guys is not an SCT tune? I take it Livernois has their own chip, programmer, etc? These power increases are awesome!

Our custom tunes have been developed in-house on our AWD Dyno-Jet and are loaded onto an SCT X3 device. We mail the blank tuner to you, then you read the strategy code and email that along with the serial number from the device, year of your vehicle, mods (if any) and what octane fuel you run, then we email the files to you to load on the SCT device.

Sorry...this thread got ahead of me! I missed this post somehow.

Dyno numbers...that was a while ago. On the Stage 3 tune, I made I believe a little over 380hp to the wheels. Thats on Livernois AWD dyno. I believe it's a load-bearing Dynojet. I know their other dyno is a Mustang, but I believe this one is a Dynojet but is load bearing. Rick I'm sure will chime in on this.

We have a 2WD portable Dyno-Jet and the AWD load-bearing Dyno-Jet in the ground. We previously had a Mustang Dyno, but got rid of it when the AWD dyno was installed.

To my knowledge, the stage 4 has never been onthe dyno.

I don't recall peak numbers of the top of my head, but I know there were areas in the curve where Darrell's car picked up 100 WHP / 100 WTQ (with CAI, Corsa and our tune) and ours picked up 90 WHP / 90 WTQ (with just Corsa and our tune).

Ok Im just about to pull the trigger.
Tell me how this works.
I buy the tuner and stage 3. Do I also get stage 1&2 or is there a seperate charge for those tunes?
If I update my PCM (Ford TSB etc..) do I need to get another tune and would there be a charge for this?

As mentioned above, we mail the blank tuner to you, then you read the strategy code and email that along with the serial number from the device, year of your vehicle, mods (if any) and what octane fuel you run, then we email the files to you to load on the SCT device.

The tuner plus all tunes sells for $499.99 + shipping.

We've had a few customers that have had their cars reflashed by the dealer and the strategy code changed. If this happens, just email or call us and we can send the files with the new strategy code at no cost.

Thank you,

Rick

Just a thought on the difference on gas mileages people are achieving here. does anyone think it might have to do with the different formulations that the companies have been forced to make for different geographical areas of the country. I know here in Pennsylvania that when the winter formula fuel is used my mileage goes down 3-4 mpg. This has been consistent with my past 4 vehicles. I friend who works in the gas business here, says that is fairly common, that own winter gas contains more methanol then in summer, and although it means higher octane it will always reduce in lower mileage.

To LMS Rick, just wondering if you got my voicemail message yesterday. I was hoping to talk to you personally to apologize for my "panic attack" e-mails, thank you for your patience, and tell you how much I like and am impressed with my tune!

Rick,

I know with the Mustang the strategy can be changed. My 2010 GT500 had multiple strategy changes from Ford with one of them having the least aggressive knock sensor settings. How many strategy changes from Ford are you aware of? Which one of them is the best and do you also provide that change with the tune? I know with my GT500 Justin at VMP was able to give me the best strategy from Ford as well.

I'm going to call my dealership and see what they say about the warrenty, you think that would be a good idea, or just do it? I think I can handle the wife, if all goes good I'll be getting with you in a few weeks. Damn I love horsepower, thanks Rick!

Still only getting 18mpg here (driving easy too) on stage 3 93oct. Not much of a factor now because it kicks butt! Maybe this summer when gas hits $7 gal

The gas here in Chi Metro area has at least 10% ethanol in the summer and probably 15% in winter blend formulations, which makes mpg worse. When I fill up downstate, where there is no ethanol in the blends, mpg in my Jeep hemi improves by about 1.5 in summer, around 2 in winter.

The Chicago area has RFG year-round (as does Louisville when I moved there). They "claim" only 10% alky, but it also has a bunch of other "crap" in it. Same stuff is run in winter, except for the RVP modifiers.

There are downstate IL guys on the SHO (and other lists I'm on). There are very few, if any, non-ethanol stations out there. IL has bought into alky gas big time.

Your better mileage outside of the Chicago metro area is getting away from RFG, even though you are most likely getting 10% alky downstate.

Yes, there are different formulations. The RFG (Reformulated Gas) that certain metro areas (like Chicago, Louisville, LA, and others) really suck.

BUT.....a huge difference is in how folks drive. I have been a passenger in SHOs where the driver drives like crap.

Also in vehicle maintenance. Over consistent long drives over the same route, I have seen differences with tire pressures, and the age of the oil.

In our frequent trips north, our mileage almost always drops, the further north we go in the winter, and increases as we get into warmer weather on the way back to Naples. It used to be the difference was due to 10% ethanol in the midwest, which made an even bigger difference at the time, but now much of it is both the formulation plus the colder temps. I always run my tires on the high side of normal to get the best mileage, as well as steering response. Only lower pressures when.........

Has anyone been logging their tune parameters, including timing, boost etc. via their SCT Tuner's logging functions? Believe their program allows logging of up to 20 different choices.

There are 4 strategy changes that I know of currently. Livernois can give you the current strategy as well but I'm not sure that can be done on the programmer...

Do you know what's different about them? I know the SCT device was able to change the strategy on my GT500. I would assume they could do the same with the SHO.

100 miles on the highway averaging 80mph got me 18.3 mpg and a $140 speeding ticket (first one in the Flex and 2 points in VT for me now, and quite honestly should have gotten a ticket a long time ago with this tuned Ecoboost motor).

Return trip, 100 miles on highway averaging just under 70mph I averaged 21.3mpg.

This was resetting mpg calculator when getting on the highway each time, and having an Airaid CAI and Livernois Stage 2 on my Brick. About 18-26 degrees F for the trips and 15-20mph winds.

Is it better to buy a tune in the mail from Livermois or just to go in person to buy the tune?

I live out in Washington and planning a trip out to Indiana in my spring break of college, one of the days of planning I could be doing is to drive to Livermois to have a look at my SHO.

If you don't mind spending the extra cash, dyno tuning at the shop is the way to go! It's a little more but well worth it in my opinion
