right now i have an 89, and im replacing it as a daily driver. I want to retire the old girl and start a project on her.

I want to completly renovate her. Im talking RWD, 400 HP (at the engine), twin turbos, 275 tires, etc. etc...

Now, i have ALOT of time to do this, and am very familar with a garage (although not as familar as i would like to be).

Just wanted to hear some thoguths, opinions, ideas. That sorta stuff.

Twin-Turbos and 400hp? You can do that with one...

Make it RWD, and only run 275s?

I think you set your sights too low.

Aim for 600hp...

Do yourself a favor and buy a buggy or sandrail of some kind.
Drop the SHO motor in that, then do your turbo plans and what not.

yea, i guess my title does sound pretty bad huh? shouldve read it first lol.

and yea, i really just want her to be a RWD monster, i hate FWD, its kinda useless to me. she was my first car, and just want to create something that will wipe the smile off of the anyone who doubts the blue oval.

plus, i really want a four door, ive thought about a buggy, but thats a little too easy...i want a challenge! and yea, 275's are good for me, and 600 hp?? i think thats a little excesive lol....

screw excessive...if you're gonna do it, do it right. i say get a regular Taurus body to hack up, make an adapter plate to bolt the SHO engine to a Skyline trans, slap a pair of turbos on it, and have a 600whp, AWD Taurus that looks completely innocent on the outside. but then, i'm a sick man...

but yea, im just puttin it to a tremec-5 and then im gonna alter the outside just a bit, flared wheel arches, thicker tires, and then keep it basically stock on the outside, just so i can tell people its my grandma's car.....

I like the idea, but aim for much larger than 275's in the back, and if your going FI, 400hp shoould be a minimum here, as the weak link for SHO's is the MTX IV, then it's the Pistons, you ditch the MTX IV you can break 350ft lbs, if your gonna cross 450hp get Forged Pistons, then see where that gets you.

if u want to get something to whipe the smile off of a ford haters face, get a terminator cobra.... **** the damn things nickname is even terminator... it doesn't get much more badass then that unless u bring up names like z06 and zr1

do some exhaust, cams, and a bigger supercharger..... find a long road to hit the gas....

and don't forget to put a towel down on the seat

for when you shit or **** yourself the first time u wind it out

The rear wheel drive conversion will be enough to keep you fully occupied for a very long time. Do that first and perfect that before you do any motor mods.
No one knows where the optimum engine location is, and aside from a supercoupe rear suspension, no one has optimized that either. You might want to start with a Supercoupe and be half way there, right from the start.

you gotta be serious if you are going to pull off a rwd swap..

dont let others tell you its impossible, im in the middle of a awd swap and doing the awd rear wasent that bad at all i just went a little overboard with the reinforcements

id highly recommend using a thunderbird rear subframe and all, before any one tried a rwd swap i was recommending tbird rear and what do you know it ended up being used by the guys who did rwd swaps. since how close the t bird is to the taurus body.

if you do aim for 600 rwhp id highly recommend some way to stiffen the body up since this is after all a fwd car. subframe connectors at least.

as for running 275 tires i can tell you right now the 245s i got for my awd project are about max, you might and i mean might be able to cram 255s in there but if you plan 275s id say tub it and do it right, a taurus would be easy to tub also. and being a 89 you got even less room in the back for tires

for 600 hp and twins id think you would be good with t3s probley get away with less but t3s would allow room for more if needed

thanks gmail, ill keep that in thought.

i was actually lookin at the tbird rear subframe, and now im pretty sure thats what im gonna use, as for tires, yea im gonna try to get the 275's on there, but im gonna try to do some major body mods, im gonna attempt to flare the wheel arches, see if that looks good or not.

and yea im aiming low at 550 HP now. i want a lot, but i want to keep it reliable.

thanks for all the input!

550 hp would be very reliable ask toolman about his cars threwout the years.. get a good tune and good parts as well as keeping up on the 60k stuff and your golden.

if you roll the wheel wells out it would work but on a 89 i dont know how it would look. id recommend cutting them up close to a gen 2 body style, will also look better

Do what I wanna do,

Put a TT 3.2 into a foxbody mustang.... 4 Cylinder cars can be had cheap and there are limitless suspension options. Its already RWD too......
