yea im gonna play around with the wheel wells, prob gonna try to find a good body kit for it, make it a little more cohesive.

and as for just putting it in a fox body, i thought about it, but i really want it to still look like a taurus (for the msot part) plus i get the 4-doors!

sometime in the future im gonna make a nice little lightwieght racer that i can take to the track, gonna base it on a foxbody. but for now...RWD conversion

Another thread of someone wanting to start something, and we'll never hear from again. Maybe you'll be different. I'd like to see someone do this...though someone did and flipped it :(.

My $.02 says to build this in stages...get the RWD nailed and driving with a stock engine, put some miles on it, then add the power.

In all the project cars I've played with there's that inevitable period of time where you'll be fixing/remedying/strengthening/redoing etc. on parts you least expected.

Good luck! Would love to see where this goes!

i LOVE those fenders. i wanna buy them off him lol....

but yea, right now im in the planning stages, getting my shit straight before i dive head first.

right nows its looking like im gonna get it running with RWD, then get the mods together, get the perfect tune, then finish the exterior, and then finish up the interior. and then ill be all done, and dreaming of a new project lol.

all this over like the next couple years realistically. i already know im going with the tremec-5 transmission, and the areostar bellhousing. and then hopefully the t-bird rear subframe. my biggest concern is finding a good suspension setup to go with the t-bird subframe.

MN12 Chassis, so any 1989 to 1997 Thunderbird, Cougar, or Mark VIII (up to 1998).

Get one from a Thunderbird Supercoupe if you can though, disc brakes and LSD.
Mark VIII is the next best, disc brakes and aluminum arms+pumpkin.

Ideally you'd want to get one of each and combine to get all three.

You don't need a Mark VIII, it's just nice to shave some weight off. The aluminum stuff takes around 60-80 lbs off, which is nice, the rear end weighs around 350 total without it.

My car/project has been stalled for quite a while, I ran into some other holdups in my life that prevented me from working on it, but I am back into working on it now. The rear end and floorpan is done, and I am remaking the front subframe for better steering geometry.

I was probably a day or so away from starting it as a drivable RWD car, but decided a modified stock front subframe wasn't going to cut it. I'm glad I made that decision, seeing what happened to the other RWD SHO. Now that I'm redoing part though, I've got some feature creep that's setting me back. It'll still get done, just not as soon as I'd hoped.

As stated above the MarkVIII doesn't really offer much except some weight reduction. Get an IRS from an Automatic Thunderbird SC of any year. Tis will give you a 3.27 Torc Lock rear end and disc brakes. MarkVIII's are 3.08 and mostly open differentials, IIRC.

cool, looks like im now gonna start the project!

its a little premature, but i had an accident and theres really no better time then now!

so first things first, im gonna fix the damage, and then search out a subframe from the supercoupe.

ill post pics as i go

this sounds like another project that will never be finished, or even get started for that matter. just somebody who feels like posting something cool and getting a lot of responses.

i think its great that another member is going for the rwd conversion. i do agree with sperold on getting the conversion done first and put some miles on it, rather than building the motor up dropping it in and wrecking it . i think it would be a little easier to add body stiffiners in the right places as you begin to add more power. and may be a little safer aswell.
best of luck to you and cant wait for pics and build log
