I had an <ahem> incident in my '91, and would like to be ready to replace the motor once the "wappity-wappity-wappity" of knocking rods gets old. Oh, wait, already did. OK, I'd like to replace the short block before I spew a rod and oil all over the 101.

Gathering the parts now, hopefully I can wait until I have a house to do the swap.

wtf happened?

wtf, indeed...

It was the frikken loose shifter. I was on 51 trying to merge into the exit lane for Thomas. Looked over, all clear, started going over and then some Jack@ss in a black C4 Vette comes off the Indian School exit at probably 90mph. I swerve to the left and slam my brakes without thinking, then I had to drop it to 3rd at about 40 to get out of the way of the truck coming up on me REAL fast. That was all OK, but when I went to grab 4th the shifter twisted around and I hit 2nd at about 85 or so. Bwaaaaaaaaaaaarrrr!

I had to take 10 back around at that point, and I was hearing "wappity-wappity-wappity" rocks-in-a-tin-can noise from the time I shifted back into 4th. Bucked and stalled a few times, but it hung in there until I made it home.

I have no heartburn swapping it out for a 3.2 since it's gonna need an enginectomy anyway. Block actually may be OK, but I'm sure the crank is pounded flat at at least 2 rod bearing surfaces. I took a listen with my mechanic's stethescope before I shut her down at home.

RIP, little 3.0

sad...

Tom may be able to hook up a 3.2. that thing had Rod bearings as of early 2009, with maybe 5,000 miles on em.

you might as well go all out and do a Gen 3 subframe and get a wavetrac diff too...

working on a motor swap myself right now.

Mine will be more expensive than one from a wrecking yard. For example, my new with only 87 miles 3.0 from the SHOSTAR project that Ford did a while back is for sale for 1.200.00, 1,500.00 if you want the polished intake with it.

Go to the places that have already pulled the engines and have them on a shelf. You can negotiate with some of them. Or just buy the whole car off CraigsList and part it out yourself.

I was at Pick a Part on Broadway at 35th Ave today looking for some kind of transplant for the Merkur XR4ti I just picked up. Was hoping a SHO V8, no go on that, but they did have a '95 3.2 that looked unmolested. Sorry, didn't check mileage.

Nice. Funny how these crate motors keep turning up. At least this guy has priced it something close to realistically.

I just looked up SHO on the Flint Michigan CL, and there's a listing for a "1993 Ford Taurus SHO Plus" with a "DOHC 3.2 Yamaha (snakepit) racing engine
250 hp
237 f/lbs torque" hmmmm....

no performance mods listed..... he does only want $800 though.

and about the crate engine. :omgsho:

the 93 looks like a turd....

the engine is still avail....my father offered to store it for me. thing is my engine runs fine...if/when it grenades which is not likely, i would be prone to drop out entirely. I just turned 43....I'm getting a tad tired of working on these (and mine you, I dont have to work on them that often). Gotta say though, the white sho has been my debt free mobile for some time.

I will note that since I met Tom 7 years ago in AZ, I have put 100,000 combined miles on my 2 white SHO's. Not much work on them to get there either, just that the work I've done has been homicidal things like steering racks, Blend Doors and a clutch....not the easy things like ashtrays and air fresheners that Eric changes on the newer Focus.

Ha! Don't get me started about the Focus. It's a hoot to drive, but it is seriously annoying to work on. Four hours to change the starter, which includes removing the intake. The stock inner tie rod has no flats, which means one must remove the LCA assembly to get room to get a pipe wrench on it. At the last track event both the bolts that hold the steering rack to the subframe decided to back out. One is not accessible with anything other than a box end wrench held by a contortionist, and even then you can't get much torque on it. If you track it with anything but synthetic fluid in the p/s system it boils in the pump and the cavitation destroys the pump and the fitting on the high-pressure line, which is a b$tch to get at.

Not a fun car to work on.

Enjoy your pathetically-easy-to-work-on-in-comparison SHO. ;)

Ohh working on new cars...... haha My mom has an 05 Rendezvous and it took multiple hours for my dad to get to the battery. There's a structural metal rod you have to unbolt as well as a mess of wires.... Oh and I doesn't have accessory belt diagrams. They don't exist. Not under the hood or in the manual. I don't understand that.

Dang, that's a great price. I bet it's sold already.
Tom

Really!! $1000 is a good price! I know of a couple of 3.2 crate motors & I told him $500 was too much! mmmm.....prolly still has em.
I was going to bring one down for the conv. in dearborn, maybe auction it off for charity, but I couldn't do it.
