Intro/disclaimer: Hey guys. I am selling my SHO with the upfront disclaimer that this is a fixer or a parts/donor car (sold as a complete car, I am not interested in parting it out myself). I was driving my SHO a few weeks ago and it overheated resulting in what appears to be some significant needed engine repairs. I do not have the time or, honestly, the will to fix her. I really hope that, given what the car has going for it, someone can “bring her back to life” or at least benefit from its parts. The car starts and runs but you can hear unhealthy noises, there is definitely a loss of power and it is necessary to keep the RPMs up in order to keep the car from stalling. I wish I could be more specific regarding what exactly needs to be repaired but I honestly do not know. I hope that one of you SHO gurus out there can fix her. I strongly recommend that the buyer tow this car home (unless you live very close).
Basics: 1993 Ford Taurus SHO Pearl white on gray interior. 106,853 original/actual miles. Automatic transmission, 3.2 liter. The car has the half leather/half cloth interior and no sunroof. Second owner. Located in Murrieta, California. VIN 1FALP54P6PA295497 Asking $500 or best offer.
History: I bought the car in 2003 with 60,000 miles on it. It had been owned by an elderly lady who passed away and was sold to me by her adult son. I am ‘technically’ the second owner but if you look at a CarFax, you’ll see three owners because it was transferred to the son for a short time. The pretty cool and unique thing about this car is its pearl white paint. From what the son told me, it was taken straight from the Ford dealer to the body shop to get painted with the pearl. The wheels are also pearl white to match the body. So, the only “mods” the previous owner did was the pearl white paint, the grayed SHO letters and window tint. The only mods I have done are the clear corner lights (I still have the original lights boxed in the garage) and the white Yamaha emblems front and back. Up until the recent overheating incident, the car has always been current on its preventative maintenance and ran smoothly. For the most part, the car has been garaged (there were times I had to keep it in the driveway). The car has always “lived” in California (it has never seen snow).
The plusses: I recently paid the registration so it is good through June 2011. Great body – straight frame/never in an accident (clean title), no rust (California car). The automatic transmission is in perfect working order (always maintained with new fluid, filter, gasket, pan/magnet cleaning every 30,000 mi). The interior is in pretty good shape, even the driver’s seat doesn’t have the common excessive side bolster wear. The interior panels don’t have excessive discoloring which is also common. The near-mint leather steering wheel does not have scrapes and nicks. The leather shifter is mint. The center armrest has no significant blemishes or wear. The OEM floormats are in good shape (recently shampooed for this sale). Aside from the front bumper, the paint is pretty good for the car’s age – I’d give it an 8/10 due to random chips and nicks here and there. The rims have random scattered blemishes but, again, are pretty good for their age. The car has four nearly brand new tires with 6,500 miles on them, 80,000 mile warranty, paid $350. The air conditioning and heat work great. I only have one keyless remote but it works great and I have two sets of keys. I have the owner’s manual with everything it originally came with (even the uncut “credit card” key). I have a car cover specific for the Taurus that I can include. I will also include my Chiltons and Haynes repair manuals. The wheels come with Ford locks (and key). All of the spare tire parts and tools are present. I even have the Ford accessory trunk cargo net. The car has always successfully passed California smog emissions with good numbers. All scheduled maintenance has always been performed (oil/filter, spark plugs, transmission fluid/filter, air filter, fuel filter, etc.). Unless stated otherwise below, everything works (CD/Tape/Radio player, cruise control, keyless entry, all lights, power seat bolsters/power lumbar, etc.)
The minuses: The obvious one being the needed engine repair(s) resulting from the recent overheating as discussed above. The window tint is pretty bad, it’s purple and bubbling and it’s hard to see out of. The front bumper cover needs to be repainted (1. There was a low-speed parking incident which took the paint off the front left corner and 2. I hit a bucket on the highway causing the bumper paint to chip and crack). Years ago, I had a problem with the starter solenoid so I ran some wire to the starter with a button in the cabin. Until fixed, you need to put the key in the ignition, turn the ignition to ON and flick the button to start the car. In my attempt to fix this, I have the steering wheel cover off the column (but I still have all the original parts) and I even tried (unsuccessfully) to fix the problem with a new ignition switch so right now it uses a new key (but I still have the original ignition and Ford keys). The climate control buttons are cracked. The driver side door panel has a broken upper clip(s) causing the door panel to flap when the door is closed. The passenger power seat does not go to and fro. There is one linear rip about 2” long in the leather on the back bench near the center. The front passenger window barely works and the rear driver side window only works from the rear window switch. The windshield wipers do not work. The power antenna is stuck in the up position. The battery might need replacement soon. It does leak some oil.
I have been as honest as possible and disclosed everything I know. Please feel free to ask any questions for additional clarity.
I am not really interested in parting the car out. I’d much prefer to sell it as a complete car as-is.
