i know someone's gonna pipe in with their opinion, but in reality, 4 guage is a bit small for that size amp. might wanna step that up a lil bit after you find where it's shorting (i call the firewall).

Power cable grounding out.... PERIOD. Please do run through the car. It is the right way to do it. If you slack on that part and run it through the door jam like some do - eventually it will break the cable and possibly cause a car fire - or the wire to burn right up to where the fuse is located (which should be as close to the battery as possible). Just go run another length of cable to the amp - proper route should be - from the battery - through the firewall - drill a hole if necessary - then put a grommet on the new hole to protect your cable from the sharp firewall hole - run under trim all the way to the backseat and through to trunk. Make sure your power cable is on opposite sides of the car as your RCA cables as it will cause interference. Your choice of using the backseat bolt for your ground is A-OK. What are you using to connect your power cable to the battery? A nice terminal designed for such? Please tell me you didn't just jam the end of the cable down between the terminal and the post or something like that.
OP doesn't understand how a circuit works or what a fuse does and it would seem that the install people don't either.?????? what you mean man? I still need to take pic.
but here is what I had for a ground back then.. btw it is recommended to have a short ground. IIRC 18" or less..

i see what you did there...My trunk is everything the meaning of timecapsel is. Actually the whole damn car. I will post a gas receipt from 04. Think it was $1.35/gal.but here is what I had for a ground back then.. btw it is recommended to have a short ground. IIRC 18" or less..
