Congrats on your new SHO! Best car I ever owned (miss it already). I had the performance package on my 2010 SHO and used Michelin Ice snow tires on 17" rims for the winter. I replaced the compressor with one of the mounted snow tires for my spare (fit perfect circumference wise, but was taller than the spare well was deep). I think getting the performance package and then getting rid of the performance tires that came with it is was what the previous poster was getting at. IMHO having the Eagle GTs for the summer and having snow tires/rims for the winter is a better solution than buying year round tires. Discount tire will swap them out each season for free if you but them there. I spent $1,100 for the tires and nice 5-star black powder coated machine lip 17" rims (smallest diameter that will fit with no clearance issues). It solved my no spare problem too.

Im doing the same thing. Dedicated snow tires with 18" rims for about $1,000. Snow tires for the oem 20" wheels were almost $1,200.

Are the Primacy tires just for winter? I'm also confused as to getting the Performance Package and then going with those tires. But for winter? Sure...

So, again, are the Primacy your winter tires??

Are you trying to be funny or are you just stupid?

Go ahead and drive on snow and ice through the midwest and Rocky Mountains in winter on Goodyear F1s.
I consider people who can't read as stupid. Take that for what it's worth. As for tires, I know them quite well. Again, my question to the OP, and not you, is why get the Performance Package and then shod it with, not Max Perf, not Ultra High Perf, not High Perf, but Grand Touring tires?

All seasons and AWD will get you through 99% of a New England winter so that would be a good selection for a winter tire. But for the summer? It's a poor choice unless you drive like a granny...

And then why get a Performance Package if that's the case?

The Michelen tires the SHO comes with are pretty good. Wouldn't go as far as to call them minivan tires, they probably dont grip as great as F1s in the dry, but for people who live in places with rain they are great. I remember driving my vette on F1s the rain was like suicide.

Yes, Supercars are suicidal in the rain. At least driven hard. But there are so many better tires that will ride more comfortably, drive well in the rain and still match the capabilities of the SHO...

I replaced the F1s with the Michelins. My preference is for these all-season tires. I like them and others may like other brands. Choice is great!
I wanted the Performance package for the "enhanced" suspension and "tuned" power steering. I didn't want the summer tires or the tire pump setup but I had no choice if I ordered the Performance Package. Hence I changing those items to what I want on the car I drive. It has been 5 days and I have driven over back roads in NH. With frost heaves that can be pretty rough. I don't mind the ride... I feel as if I have more control and the car won't bounce off the road. I think this car is the right blend of performance and comfort/convenience for me. The more I drive it the more I am convinced I purchased the right car for me.

Yep. There are SO many better choices for tires. As others have done (and it's what I do), dedicated winter tires literally run circles around all/season tires. And the car needs good summer tires.

Getting a good a/s tire for year-round is semi-OK, as long as it's something like the Conti Extremes.

I'm with Jim on this one with those Michelin WXV4s. Except I wouldn't even put them on a minvan if I owned one.........

What is it with SHO folks going cheap with crappy tires??? All of your handling, be it dry/wet/snow/slush, as well as your braking performance, is dependent on the tires on the car. In a cold-weather climate, two sets of tires are the only way to go.

Tires...

I appreciate the different opinions about the tires. If you have access to the November 2009 issue of Consumer Reports, the Michelin Primancy MXV4 was the top rated tire in the Performance All-Season group. I thought the 4 page article did a good job explaining the differences in the types of tires and the various trade-offs of each type. I haven't notice any major difference but I only had 130 miles on the F1s. BTW... I'm selling those brand new F1 tires if anyone is interested.

It wasn't very nice of you to call someone stupid. Follow?

Nice? When someone makes a sly, derisive comment in the first place, they had better be able to handle a response that calls them on it. Otherwise, don't make the comment. It's really as simple as having basic manners. Bullies and their friends always become confused when someone responds in kind to their original snide comments. That's nothing new.

A corvette is far from a supercar.

Can you recommend me a tire that would be a good replacement for my stock 20s? I would like to swap out my tires for something better in the warmer months.

And a SHO is? I've got a supercharged C6 ZO6 that says different. Maybe they don't cost supercar money (although at $83,000 I think that's enough) they represent the class rather well....

So anyway.... to the OP, congrats on the new SHO! Glad that you like it, and are setting it up the way YOU want it.

Hard to believe, a decent community such as this douching up a thread that should be a happy occasion for the OP, about tire choice? It's his car, who cares?

A supercar is an exotic automobile. A high end benz, a Ferrari, Lambo, Pagani, etc. Not a corvette. Just because your vette has a supercharger (and I bet its crazy fast) does not classify it as a supercar. My vette runs 600 to the wheels without any forced induction and I would say its still far from a supercar. Its still a chevy at heart.

Uh....right from the Tire Rack site, which takes the marketing blurb from the mfr:

" Primacy MXV4 tires are Michelin's Grand Touring All-Season tires developed to meet the needs of coupes and sedans, as well as family minivans and crossover utility vehicles."

No kidding,

Not to mention, You guys got the performance package for its "Tuned suspension" and "Steering"....Well that all just went out the window when you put those Michelins on. I had those tires on my old Subaru Legacy RS for about a month, replaced them and threw them in the garbage. They absolutely killed the car.

I've had my fair share of Porsches, Mercedes, etc......Because they're not made in the US and they have SOME performance classifies them as supercars? I don't think so. The Vette takes so much heat for the interior, and the Porsche interior is a joke with it's 20 pieces of carpet all glued in pieces and the great plastic dash with the silver stippling.....It sure doesn't ooze elegance OR Supercar. The Mercedes is a tad better but marginally. The last Ferrari I considered purchasing (but didn't) had what looked like a piece of leather covered cardboard on the passenger side of the dash! Supercar....Pleaaaassssee!

If that is what you consider a supercar....then the Corvette fits in......

Otherwise there are only a few....Bugatti Veryon, S7 maybe, a Lambo model or two...(althouth the interior is also a JOKE) But if you measure performance the ZO6 and ZR1 are hard to beat and lets face it.....That is what should be measured when considering that status....Not the name of the manufacturer....If Lamborghini made a school bus....that doesn't classify supercar status.....

(Off my soap box now......)

Fair enough. Sometimes people purchase tires not really knowing what they want or what they're getting. If you like them, that's all I need to know. The SHO is a great car, enjoy it!

Hey Chuckles, I can take all the snide, pansy-ish comments you can attempt to throw my way. But since you have problems with reading comprehension, let's recap:

OP says he is putting Grand Touring tires on a Performance Package SHO. I was curious why but wondered if they were for the winter. You come in and state they're great in the winter. Which doesn't answer my question to the OP, so I ask again. Then, you call me stupid as you state F1 don't do well in snow. And since I bought a car with F1 Supercars 6 years ago, I already would know that.

And because I called them minivan tires, you get all butthurt. That pretty much sums it up...

Get over it. A corvette is NOT a supercar, and never will be. That is not just my opinion.
