Amherst I hope you enjoy the car. I got the perf pack and so far i'm loving the supercar tires. I had them on my caliber srt-4 and absolutely hated them. Personally I think it's the car that is making the difference. Or the extra width or the awd system. They ride nice and smooth for me as well.

To the people who complained about his tire choice. First of all it's his car. 2nd I am willing to bet they will perform just fine. How often do you drive on the road to break the threshold of the tires? A couple wot runs here and there, but if you are taking turns fast enough to break the tires loose then maybe you shouldnt drive. Once he breaks them in a little and if he doesnt like them, then it's as easy as replacing them with something that fits his needs. It's not like he put some god awful pos tire on his car. Overall they are a good all season tire. I wouldnt go that route, but I wouldnt bash him for doing that either.

Sorry, but some of us drive he car as it was intended to be driven......

If nothing else, great tires...for the intended application as in good summer tires, then good winter tires....also help braking A LOT, even if you don't take corners at over 7/10s.

Good tires are the single best investment you can make in any car, well before you change brakes or other suspension components. They work under ANY driving conditions.

I appreciate the different opinions about the tires. If you have access to the November 2009 issue of Consumer Reports, the Michelin Primancy MXV4 was the top rated tire in the Performance All-Season group. I thought the 4 page article did a good job explaining the differences in the types of tires and the various trade-offs of each type. I haven't notice any major difference but I only had 130 miles on the F1s. BTW... I'm selling those brand new F1 tires if anyone is interested.

AmherstGuy, I'm sure you are enjoying the car more and more. I was fortunate to purchase a 2010 that was delivered on 1 October 2009. It replaced the '92 SHO I had bought new and drove for 17 years. That replaced an '84 ****** Turbo GT which replaced my first car, a '70 Maverick with 3 on the tree that I bought from my Dad.
The Gen 4 car is a sedan with performance no doubt, but it is different than the Gen 2 in a lot of ways. It sure does have the performance part. If I recall correctly the '92 had Goodyear Eagle GT+4 tires that were almost as bad in snow as the present Eagle F1s. They also didn't last long, about 22K miles. Like you, I preferred to go with a decent all season tire and replaced the F1s with Primacy MXV4s as you did. There wasn't much of a choice last year when I made the change. I didn't want to bother with 2 sets of wheels and tires. Some folks don't mind and that's their business. I apologize for helping to create a stir in a thread where you discuss your new car. I should have let the guy go who started it by making smug comments couched in a question. I can ignore that other guy now that I know he wasn't but a wet behind the ears junior high kid when I bought my '92.
I hope you post more comments about your experiences with the car and can put up a picture. The Gen 4 SHO exceeds all of my expectations. It is also my first car without a clutch. The paddle shifters seem to work just fine, but it sure is a different kind of manual. They worked especially well driving on some of my favorite roads in the Rocky Mountains when visiting my old hometown a couple of times this past year. Take care.

I love the car. However, I feel a little stupid. There is so much to learn and absorb (but that's the fun). I haven't felt like this since I had an Austin Healey Sprite when I was 20 years old. The SHO is much more refined but I get that same feeling (I'm much older now!). I'm not ready to make any big changes since I like the car "as-is" for me and my capabilities. Right now I want to keep this car for 17 years too! Thanks for your comments.

This may sound crazy to you but there are some shops by me that will take your tires and give you credit towards the ones that you purchase. Worth asking I guess!

You apologize and then continue to stir the *** with inaccuracies yet again. There was no smugness on my part until you came in with the stupid comment. I had a genuine concern for the OP that he got a hard edged version of the SHO and may have been putting tires on the car he wasn't fully familiar with. My point was to help the OP. And again, as Ron pointed out, the Primacy tire is a common choice for minivans. If the OP knows the tires' limits and likes how they perform, that's all I needed to know.

And you bought your '92 SHO in 1987? I myself had a '92 SHO bought lightly used in '93. Had that for 10 years. I have bought from the Tirerack, among other places, for 20 years. I tried a number of different tires for the SHO. In fact, I made my own mistake of buying Pirelli P4000s for the SHO which were Grand Touring. TireRack graciously took them back and then I went for Dunlop SP4000, which were more of a performance tire. So early on, I made that mistake which, again, is why I wanted to check with the OP. I ultimately went back to GT+4 because of their stiff sidewalls.

The SHO finally got wider rims and many UHP tires and some Max tires, such as the Yokohama AVS Intermediates, AVS S1-Z, Nexus and Goodyear F1 GS-D3 tires. It also had its own track wheels with BFGoodrich R1 slicks. And then Hoosier R6s.

The SHO rarely got driven in the snow so it didn't have its own winter wheels and tires. But most of my other cars have. I have experiences with Hakkapeliitas, Blizzaks, Toyo Winters. I run Michelin Energy LX4s on my Town Car. I run Michelin PS2s on my V. From Hoosier GACs to Goodyear Assurance ComforTreads, I've helped many friends and family to find the right tires. My father's garage is decorated with all the different tire stickers I've accumulated over the last 20+ years of tire buying. I know more about tires than you care to admit.

So instead of being an internet know-it-all, why not leave it to the real know-it-alls...

I would keep the original tires and not sell them just yet. For a couple of reasons:
You may decide you want the special results you get from winter only tires (with the mountain and snowflake) after a full winter of driving. And it gives you an excuse to try a different rim on your pride and joy, and you can even go to a different rim size, either up or down to see how that looks and feels. At that point, you can go back to the summer performance tires, where you get the best of the summer driving experience.
When the car gets a little older and you want to "bring it back" to its original glory, the lightly used original performance tires will be a nice addition to that look.
You have the flagship car for the Ford fleet..... congratulations.

I'm glad you love the car. And if that other guy keeps making you feel like I was attacking you, let me assure you I wasn't. I wanted to make sure you were getting the tire you really wanted and I've made the mistake of getting tires I didn't really want. If you like the Primacys, that's great. Enjoy the car!

And you bought your '92 SHO in 1987?

Well, I was certainly going to ignore you, but you made it far too easy, son. You are either drunk or can't read or both. If you read my post I said I purchased a 2010 SHO that was delivered on 1 October 2009 and it replaced my '92 SHO that I bought new and drove for 17 years. I have no idea where you read that I bought a '92 in 1987. Your credibility just blew out the window, big boy. Keep replying to my posts and you can bury yourself even further. Wow.
I would hate to be as sure of anything that you think you are of everything.

I think Jim was referring to the fact that he was in Junior High school in 1987 and you claimed that you bought your first SHO when he was in JHS.

Anyways dude why do you keep going on and on about it.

That's OK, jmpSHO2nd, he just can't read. Yes, "buff", I called you out since when I was in junior high, SHOs didn't even exist yet. And I bought my '92 just a short time after you did so bringing that up as you being anything special doesn't really pan out. And that whole rant of you calling me out and for not reading and losing all credibility? That's right back on you.

But I'm sure you won't go back and actually read what you've messed up on and just try to keep calling me out on something you have no clue about...

The only person getting buried is you. I have no idea why, but you seem to think you have the upper hand in this e-fight. Re-read post #39. You started this bitchfest when you misinterpreted Jim's post (#6). I can't figure out why you're still arguing about this.

A corvette is far from a supercar.

Can you recommend me a tire that would be a good replacement for my stock 20s? I would like to swap out my tires for something better in the warmer months.

I have 4 Goodyear Eagle F1 tires for sale (245/45ZR20 99Y Manufacture date - 3110). Asking $500
