I was trying to remove the a pillar, but it looks like it has secondary clips holding it in place. I was too nervous to yank on it any more than I did. Are there any secrets to get it off, or just pull it again after the first metal clips let go?

Does anyone know of any fuses that turn on with the ignition? I tested about 5 and they were hot even without the car running. I want to get my radar detector to turn on when I start the car. I would prefer to not splice into the ignition wire because I have never done that before.

I just tried to the ambient lighting and the fuse was hot when the car was off. I tried 10 and they were all hot. I ordered a rear view mirror splice kit and now im thinking those wires will be hot too.

The A-pillars have a "2 stage Hi retention" system to help prevent the a-pillar from flying off if the side curtain deploys.

Pull the a-pillar toward the center of the vehicle to release stage1

Squeeze the retaining clips to release stage 2, while pulling the a-pillar toward the center of the car.

Hope that helps!

Where do you live in michigan?

In case anyone is interested in hard wiring a radar detector it's really easy on this car. You dont even need to remove the a pillar the whole way.
Mount your radar detector next to the mirror.
Push the cable in the headliner to the a pillar.
Pull down the weather stripping.
Pull the a pillar to remove the first stage.
Run the wire down the a pillar and push it to the foot well near the bottom.
Run the positive to fuse 41. This turns on/off with the ignition.
Use one of the bolts in the foot well for the ground.

10 minutes tops. I put the positive right on the leg of the fuse, but you could use something like this too http://www.amazon.com/Pico-0956PT-Mini-Circuit-Holder/dp/B001QRSBW0

The blendmount looks cool, but the only issue I see is that it's really visible. Not only for cops, but also for thieves.

Check out these pics for a corvette on their site http://www.blendmount.com/showthread.php?t=729

It's a cool concept though. I never has issues with suction cups on my v1 though.

I've also considered the risk of having it that visible. In Texas radar detectors arent illegal so I'm not concerned about that. I am however, concerned about the theft aspect.

For now, I have my V1 mounted on my sun visor. Works pretty good there.

My passport has rear looking laser detection, the visor cushion interfered with that. I like the idea of booting it up when you start but hardwiring is not a good idea if a person wants to remove all evidence of its existence.

Manufacture (******) suggests mounting to center of windshield with suction cups for optimal performance. Detector needs clear view behind as well as ahead.

If I wanted to I could pull the whole detector down with the suction cups and tuck the wire in the headliner in about 5-10 seconds. Where mine is located it has a clear view in front and behind the car.

Also the chances of you being shot by laser from the rear and slim to none. Cops are trained to shoot the front of vehicles. Besides that if a cop is using laser your chances of not getting a ticket are also slim to none, unless you get lucky and pick up a reflection from a different car that was shot. That has happened to me before, but I was shot a couple seconds later. The only chance you might have is a laser jammer, but they are not very reliable and are also very expensive.
