A fellow forum member bought a clutch for his 92. I have read about there being a 9.25 and a 9.75. What would a 90 have? I've read that there was a recall and changed to a larger one. I looked at the recalls and there was never one for my car, only one that showed up not being done was for the seatbelts. Is there an easy way to find out? I'm going to be driving 150 miles to my fathers shop to do the power steering rack and would like to do the clutch to.

OK I found this http://www.shonutperformance.com/clutchinfo.htm. Any one have any other tips.

The only way it would be the 9.25" clutch is if it was an early 90 and it's the original clutch. You can tell by pulling the starter and having alook at the pressure plate. If it's made from stamped steel, it's the 9.25". If the clutch cover is cast iron, it's 9.75".

If you have a 9.25" you should upgrade to the 9.75". To do this, you will need a 9.75" flywheel.

Don't forget to do the rear main seal.

What he said , all 89 and early 90 had the small fly/clutch setup when purchased.

You can probably ask Ford if it was done , they should have the history of that VIN.

Every thing in this car was original, I just did the first 60k. It still has a recall from 92 that still has not been done. I couldn't find a recall about the clutch.

Yes, their is a reason they were recalled and updated, 9.25 couldn't handle the job. If you put one in you're just asking for trouble and even more money spent for another clutch job, very possibly sooner than later.

The 90 in my driveway made it to 140,000+ miles before I took the still-functioning 9.25" clutch and replaced it along with the engine.

By the way, in your picture it's hard to tell but it looks like the 9.75" pressure plate.

The pictures indicate you have the 9.75" clutch. I am 100% positive.

It is a 9.75 and that is a good thing. The day is coming where the little guy won't be available at all.
