5 grand? I'd have to be nuts to spend 5 grand on an SHO. 5k would net a really nice one, but for a guy that is 15 years old, it might be a little steep. Sooner than later, something will break and need replacing, adding more to the cost.

I think the basic idea is, especially for someone just getting into Gen 1/2/3 SHO ownership, do your research thoroughly and buy the best car you can find. :salute:

This thread is funny, because over on the mustang forums, 16 year old kids make threads asking about getting '11 GTs as their first car and everybody's saying "Buy an old SHO instead!"

LOL...

they should really be looking to get something with good handling and braking and underwhelming acceleration.

like a 6 banger stang, or a stock 240sx.

but hey, the kid here listed his reasoning and his understanding between 'streets' and 'track' so if he wants a SHO he wants a SHO.

the engine notes are addicting to say the least.

Hate to break it to ya bub, but a stock SHO nowadays does have underwhelming acceleration. You know how much HP a Toyota Sienna - a minivan - has? 270hp. Those ****ers scoot. And it's a minivan.

But no minivan sounds like a SHO. I ran my wife's 95 out for my dad who was visiting - it has the stock exhaust (at 200k!) and he looks at me and says "it sounds like a Le Mans car" (and no, he didn't mean LeMons, I asked lol). Then I took it on a skidp... er, roundabout and after about three times around he said "you need to stop, I can't get my face off the window." Hers is a little modded in the suspension department, though... (moogs/monroes, 21/26 sways, F/R STBs, etc.) but it was fun! And with a little braking upgrade they stop quite well.

yeah, underwhelming by a brand new car's standards but you show me 100 15 year old kids that could afford a brand new car and i'll call you a liar.

i'm saying in this kid's assumed affordability bracket (he's looking at SHOs so i'm gonna guess 2gs max) the SHO can definitely move out of the way of a lot of other 2000 dollar cars. where as a S13 240sx with 100,000 plus miles on a stock drivetrain will not have the Shit-n-Git that your average 1500-2000 dollar SHO would possess.

i had one of those Siennas pull me in my wife's SLO, it was crazy.

yep, a gen 1 or 2(ewww) with all the maintenence done, some decent suspension and brake work will be all the fun you will ever need in highschool.

Thats nice but i don't know how i feel about airbags...

The airbags on my '94 ATX saved my ass when they went off.

99.999999999% of airbag horror stories you hear are caused by two things: 1) Not wearing your *****mn seatbelt, and 2) sitting too close to the wheel (there needs to be at least 8-10" between your face and the wheel).

Airbags on Tauruses have proved to be incredibly reliable. I know when I had my 94, I always wondered if they were going to work when I needed them. The answer was yes. Perfectly. In fact, they worked so well that not only did my sunglasses stay on my face, but neither my sunglasses nor my face were damaged. The only injuries I sustained were bruising on my stomach from where the seat belt was.

tl;dr if you sit in a car right and wear your seatbelt, you have absolutely nothing to fear from air bags.

I will definitely wear my seatbelt. I actually was not talking about car airbags. In the ebay link that he posted there was airbag suspension :p Glad you were ok. Could you tell me what happened if you dont mind

Fun173, this is what I was talking about when I said that all SHO's are a Taurus...They do a great job in a crash situation. Years ago I wouldn't have cared, but now as a father of 3, I appreciate it so much more. I also stated that as a plus to present to your parents if they needed a little convincing. Find the wreck pics on here of SHOs, then find similar pics of Civics, Neons, S13/14's, etc...

Also another reason I don't mind so much that the SHO is no longer the supersedan it once was. Beautiful soundtrack, artwork of an intake, and safety to boot.

I'm Glad to know they are safe. I think my mother may be a bit weary of one if i do get one but i'm going to look for crash pics on here and show my parents them.

Thanks

Edit: I cant find any crash threads :/

The SHO is my first car....it's addicting lol

I knew about the SHO and when this one randomly came up for sale, i snapped it up.

For a 15 yr old, it would be a great car (especially something realistic as i doubt many 15yr olds can buy a 2011 GT lol). It's got great power (for a 15 yr old car) and you can always improve on that.

One of the best things to remember about buying an SHO is that it comes with the best community of fellow car owners that love the thing to death.

Oh... well then. Carry on.

I smacked an impala during a turn. It was my fault - didn't see him as I was pulling out. It didn't help that the impala was the same color as the road... that should be illegal!

Boston? Whole bunch of SHO folks in that area. Contact Kirk at NESHO in Spencer, he could find something good for you.

Hey everybody. Let me just say i found the SHO on the wikipedia sleeper list about a year and wanted one ever since.

Well, My dad says if i do well in school this year then he will get me a SHO :woo-hoo:

I'm defiantly going to work my but off because i love these cars!

I had some questions though. I know a year is a long time from now but im just so excited.

First off, What SHO would you all recommend? I like the Mid 90's ones but which one would be best for reliability and such.

Second, How do they handle?

Third, How fun are these to drive. From watching youtube videos they look awesome. This is less of a question and more of a tell me how much you love driving your SHO!

:thankyou: in advance and i hope to be getting an awesome SHO in the future

I would deffinatly recomend a mtx gen II, they are just the best imho. I've owned both and the gen 2 92 to 95 was just such a better comfortable car to drive, and looks better as well. As far as being relaible if they are maintained the same, a gen II is going to be better because its newer.

They handle decent for what they are, obviously alot better than most trucks and Suv's.

As far as being fun to drive, they are a blast, I love mine and drive it hard everywhere, its been one of the most relaible cars I've ever owned after I did the needed maintnance to it.

But honestly its a fast car for someones first car. And just know that if you buy a cheap one it probably going to need alot of maintnance to get it relaible. So be prepared to dish out money for that. Also I wouldn't recomend one to a 16 year old unless you or your dad can work on it, sending it to a repair shop for common maintnance going to **** you on cash.

But that being said I bought mine at 18, and have had minamal problems with it, and it very reliable.

What are you guys talking about not being reliable? I put a ton of money into mine, but it has yet to this day leave me stranded. Well.. I take that back, once in 96 when I had a CPS failure. Sure if they are neglected, they are a oily, odd idling mess. But I wouldn't say they are unreliable.. they just want a constant supply of time and money.

It'll make a mechanic outta you tho. :) That much it will do.

I also wanna see a Gen 3 out handle a Gen2 or 1... :)
