Scott welding my exhaust back together. I did most of the subframe welding but since the exhaust has to have a good weld for a seal, I made Scott do it cuz he is a way better welder than me. Although im starting to get the hang of it.

what do you see wrong with it james? I just drove it home, felt a small vibration while turning right. Turns out my trans is slightly rubbing where the notch is, so tomorrow ill have to grind a small bit away (very small).

Heres some more...
Look at all this room up front.

I think i remember testing the ratio's between the two racks. I was curious why it was more responsive. The ZF was 3.5 turns stop to stop, the gen1/2 was 4.5.

I'm an aesthetics kinda Guy. The spacers for the front are kinda hokey. Other than that the rest looks great. In glad you got it in and figured out!

I didnt want to do it that way. They didnt have any 1/2in plate at the hardware store. At any rate, if you didnt push me to do it I probably wouldnt have. Thanks...

It might get a zf rack, steering shaft and some other things. I really need to put the a/c back in it first so that I can drive my daughter around. Thats the only reason why I didnt put in the zf.

Also Justin, I am keeping the Jig :)

yep yep ... theres the car. oil pump bracket on the bumper, slot in the bumper to access the pump bracket bolts, notch in the air damn, hood pins, cowl hood, turbo water cooler lines where they can burn your entire arm while you troubleshoot some stupid garbage after a WOT run. no factory hood prop.

By the way. If you use the intake piping i built as is, the MAF needs to be clocked exactly as it was AND needs its FMIC pipe perfectly aligned in order for the MAF to register properly. anything less causes turbulance and a garbage reading.

Let me see if I got this:

To put the Gen3 subframe into a atx car, all you need to relocate is the front motor mount hole 2" left and space up about 5/8"

To put the Gen3 subframe into a mtx car, you need to relocate the trans mount forward, notch the subframe tube for the transmission, and space up the front motor mount location about 5/8"

Is that it?

For the most part yes. It really is that easy! The front motor mount hole for the MTX needs to do the same thing as the ATX hole.

If you are gonna use a GEN 1/2 rack you need to use power steering rack studs from the GEN 3 rack. The subframe design is tubed and so it needs the longer bolts.

sooo does the zf rack go into a gen 1/2 without modification to the subframe??? a lil off topic im sry

yes and i highly recommend the gen 3 SHO rack to guys who dont even upgrade to a gen 3 subframe it made worlds difference in steering..

i did the subframe and rack all in one and my god its amazing in every aspect..

the steering is tight and very responsive now not to mention the handling

i recommend doing the gen 3 rack when this subframe swap is done its very easy to swap it and much harder when the subframe it in the car...

when i did my gen 3 subframe i kinda wish i would have moved the mounts more towards the passenger side... everything works and dont feel funny but the rod shifter is angled more towards the drivers side...

in the one picture posted with the mtx gen 3 subframe swap you see how he mounted it right where the atx trans mount was, what i was talking about would be to move it over like another inch as well as the motor mounts to make it clock better...

not saying anyone did it wrong just preference is all

I see what your saying, would make the shifter line up better. Did you use the lower steering shaft? Im seriously thinking about upgrading to the gen3 rack and shaft. Also, where did you get ps lines from?

do i have to have any custom hydraulic lines?

Just the line from the pump to the rack needs to be custom, I am in the middle of removing my engine so i can get a picture or what needs to be done. The return line just needs to be the stock gen 3 cut to fit.
