I have been driving my 1992 SHO as a daily driver for about 2 years. 6 months after buying her, I blew the speedometer out doing unforsaken speeds on I-25. The clock stopped at 190,000. I have done some repairs that seemed to keep her in tip top, 0-60 in 6 seconds condition. The past few months, she had started noticeably, blowing smoke at start up, Then weeks later I noticed she was smoking bad at acceleration.I had been burning 2 quarts every 100 miles. I have used every additive in the book. Ofcourse they work a week or 2 then she's, smoking again. Even though I was having the smoking problem, I didn't seem to loose any power. So, 2 weels ago I planned to break down the engine and use the "PHEONIX PROJCET" as a reference, and replace seals. I now have the heads in my yard and the car on jackstands in my drive way. A friend of mine, an engine rebuilder, has been coaching me says I should replace the rings, have the heads machined, besides what I oreiginally planed to do, "A 60K". This is what is holding me up. I have all the parts to do a "60K", but i want my SHO to be with me another 2 or more years, I don't even know for sure if my heads need re-surfacing. Does anyone have any suggestions, or similar experiences? Remember, currently I have to bum a ride to work and else where. Also, I can't afford a new car, and I wouldn't consider buying another used car, I HAVE A RUINNING SHO, that I know like the back of my hand. I really need any info that may help, why I have my car in pieces.
