good luck having any pics or video of this. tried this once and the 'i love cute cuddly rodent pests that destroy crops and spread pestilence' crowd was not having it.

*thinks back fondly to growing up in MN and using large bore rounds on gophers*

PM me the vids though when you get em though.

Well, only one video, and it wasn't shooting a dog. We were out in southwestern Nebraska, on the west end or Harlan County Resevoir. My friends dad has a cabin down there, and knows quite a few landowners. The first spot has had quite a bit of pressure, so they get a little gun shy. We triend another spot today about noon, and found out that they had been poisoned, and only saw 5-10.

Then, after a few phone calls, we were able to get on another property. This one was HUGE, about 1.5 square miles, and there were quite a few around. According to one person, they had neve been shot at. The desk and two chairs that were sitting out when we got there told us otherwise. They were gunshy, but not as bad as the first spot.

2-Savage .17 cal rimfire both with 4 power scopes
.223 Howa 1500 Heavy Varmint w/6-24x44 BSA scope
.223 Smith & Wesson M&P AR-15 w/3-9x36 Bariska handle mount scope
2-.50 muzzleloaders (needed to be shot, only once each)
.22 Ruger 10/22

Between three of us, we shot about 300 .223 rounds, 150 .17 rounds, and 100 .22 rounds.

Death tole of 15 Prairie Dogs, 6 ground squirrels, two birds, and a shit load of dirt. Talk about a bad **** ratio....

I shot 4 of the ground squirrels, all of which where with my Howa. Two where at about 130-150 yards, two were within 50. 45 grain Nosler ballistic tips are pretty rough on grounds squirrels.

Zombie **** of the week goes to Travis for shooting the bird off of a stick at 100 yards, with a 15 MPH side wind, with a .17, and in the sitting position. First shot hit the stick about 6 inches below the bird, the second split it in half (the bird).

This was only my second attempt at this, and it was decent at best. It was a **** of a good time, but the **** ratio sucks. We're also not on the best ground, the towns were huge, but kinda sparse. Hopefully by mid-summer, there will be a few more out.

buy a bull barrel savage in .223 with an accu trigger and put some decent glass on it. It's a 1 MOA gun right out of the box. the stock stock(lol) is kinda ****** and with an aftermarket stock the gun can shoot even better.

you guys need some better guns for going p dog hunting. The parallax from where the scope is mounted on the M4gery is bananas, plus the cheek weld from mounting the optic there is nearly impossible to repeat. Plus if you were switching off on who was shooting what it will further exacerbate things because each individual shooter is different. I was shooting a .300 win mag at 200-300 yards that was sighted in for somebody else and my shots were about 6 inches to the right and six inches low which is more than enough to miss a small mammal.

We were just out to have fun, my .223 is deadly, but I need to shoot it more on paper to get it where I want it. I love the savages, and the accutrigger is pretty nice. One of the .17's has the accutrigger. Next on my list will probably be a .308 savage. The howa has a really nice stock and barrel, but it weighs 13 lbs. Judging by the shooting that I have done with it, I think the scope may be junk. It doesn't seem to hold a zero. It's got external adjustment, and after sighting in last, I zero'd them. I shot it Thursday, and it was 6" high.

The M4 is my instructors, (best teacher ever) and he basicaly just uses it for plinking. I agree the scope is a joke.

indeed, BSA makes garbage optics. You don't need to go all out and buy something from Swarovski, Schmidt and Bender, nightforce, or US optics but something like a lower to mid range Leupold or Burris should meet your needs.

I was looking at getting either a Cabela's scope (leopold), or a Leopold. The BSA I bought about 5 year ago when I was young and dumb. I just havn't shot this rifle enough to realize how ****** it was. And the eye relief is only about 1 3/4".

Leopold FTW. Whenever I finish my gun case I am going to buy a .30-06 Ruger or Remington and put one of their scopes on it.

Sounds like you guys had fun!
