The most likely cause of the car not being able to push itself past 120 mph is a bad cat or a partially clogged cat as someone already mentioned.

Probably. But I only get one code, its about the secondary air pump. Think its something to do with exhaust? It seems to drive pretty normal and fine at lower speeds. It takes off good. So cars suppose to be even faster then that?

My fuel milage seems ok, nothing out of the ordinary. So a bone stock gen3 sho can top 140? I thought these were much slower then the gen1 and 2 mtx which tops at 143. My gen3 is certainly slower then my gen1.

If no codes then your cats in your Y pipe are probably fine. Unbolt the third cat after the flex and see how she does my man.

These cars are heavier, but have just a bit more power. They're slower to get there in stock form.

I tried to get Ford to fix the speedo under warranty, but the Service Manager gave me look are you kidding? Mine 1998 went to zero at 110.

Do the following on a closed course with a professional race car driver:

unbolt your exhaust at the y-pipe and secure the cat back section so that it does not drag on the ground. Go out and do a top end run. Come back with results. If your 3rd cat is clogged, you will notice it when doing this test.

Seeing I am a professional driver, I'll give that a try sometime. I have a cat that I'll try to replace with when I get the time. Right now I got to much going on.

Not to hijack the thread, my 98 sho seems slower at the top end than other v8 shos. I have a 3rd cat delete and flowmasters mufflers. Ive gone 130 in it once but on the flats it doesn't like to go past 120-130 and if it does it takes a LONG TIME. My spedo doesnt work past 110 so I use my gps

Cut out the cats, all 3 of them, and had a friend recut and weld the catless y-pipe together. I took for a run and hit 124 and still climbing, ran out of road. Someday I'll be on a long straightaway where I can see where it tops not. Also cars noticably louder.

Glad to see your car is back to normal.

Cutting out all the cats will not make the car faster, though you are sure right that it will make it louder. And worse for anyone trying to breath. Oh, and against the law in lots of places...

Might be a weak fuel pump. Top speed runs require the most out of it.

Magically fixed! I hit 140 coming up here, easily! In virginia now, somehow the long drive must have done something, cause it reaches 140 easily! I had a friend do a rear O2 sensor mod for it being catless. My gas milage is really good, even for my high speed driving. Radar detector saved my ass 4 or 5 times. Generally stayed between 75 and 90.

When I get home, going to run some seafoam through it.

Just came across this post and was wondering if you ever made that run? If not, alligator alley is the spot to do it. I see you're already in West Palm, so just take a trip to the Ten Thousand islands sometime. I too have a 98 and had the same problem years ago, but haven't come anywhere NEAR 110 in at least 5 years. I spoke with a guy named Tommy here in Brevard County a few weeks ago who drives a nice 99 (IIRC) and he said he was getting to top speed easily.
