Funny how you are comparing a turbo to a supercharger. If you can get it to where the response is like the 2010 SHO (boost off idle), I'll be impressed. Gotta have some top end though.

Thats why I am doing my homework. We are looking at at least 4 different turbos so we can figure out the best setup.

Working with a single turbo and limited budget, I imagine you'll probably play the trade-off game. I say 'limited budget' as I don't think many want to buy a $3k turbo (just the turbo) for the car. Given the amount of air this motor can move at high RPM, most quick responding turbos will die quickly. What four turbos are you considering?

I am curious to see the results. Will you include a package with a tune or a 'base' tune to work with? One of the things I found with tuning Scott's remote mount is that having a little lag isn't always a bad thing. I believe this has really helped him hook up at the drag strip.

Out in front!
Agreed a bigger turbo for topend power . A little bit of lag will help with traction off the line.

We will offer a base tune for the selected turbo. One of the turbos might provide quick response and good top end.

We are looking at a Mitsubishi, a Garrett, Turbonetics and something else...

As one who has had a ride in a whippled cobra, saying that it has better response than that is kind of a tough sell. Or even saying the response is better than a PD blower. Not doubting, just sayin'.

with a FWD car instant boost isn't always a good thing, like running a 1/4 mile.

For developmental purposes, and to have as an option, I'd recommend using a cheap ebay turbo for the time being.
Hear me out on this one.
To speed up your R&R and get this kit going together quicker, it might just be easier to use an ebay turbo, with that said...AVOID ssautochrome turbos at ALL costs. I bought a cheapbay turbo for $180 as a temporary solution for my Tbird, and I was surprised to be honest.
A cheap T3/T4 (preferably the ones with actual markings on them) were built pretty well. Aside from the fact that compressor and turbine aren't CNC'd and they lack ball bearings, they do alright.

This is just my experience with them. Mine ran for 1k miles before I put in a Holset.

Be prepared for lag though, which I shouldn't be surprised since I have a 2.3L 4banger, but I caught peak boost at around 3.5k (20psi) in 2nd gear. 1st gear doesn't boost as much...7psi (small displacement FTL).

This is just a suggestion, and definitely would be great for an option to have when the kit is ready. Save 1,500 on the kit by going with a cheap turbo solution and let the customer choose what they want to replace it later on.

I honestly think some ebay turbos get a bad rap, they make excellent daily driven turbos. I know of a lot of High HP BMW's/DSM's/Honduh's that run the same turbo, in every case the turbo outlasts the engine.

So just as someone who's had experience with them and knows people who have them, it would be a great option for the guys who want to go "cheap".

We want to make it a high quality turbo kit that is properly planned for. We will be taking on a huge responsibility when we release this kit and part of it is making sure its a good well designed kit. We will be using easy to obtain high quality turbos. We may give the option for some one to source their own turbo but that will be at their own risk.

We still have to pick the turbo to get the right power band. Make all of the tubing and get the tune setup. So no Ebay turbos.

Also we need to be able to get them reliably when we sell the kits not some fly by night place that we may never hear from again.

That's what I'm saying, for general set up use, an ebay placement turbo is perfect. It's not like they come with obscure bolt patterns or weird oil fittings, it's all the same.
I really don't think you need to worry about the type of turbo that bad with tubing, placement is key. On the development side, it's much easier to just use something as a template to make sure you have a process down for mass manufacturing...believe me I know.

I'm not sure if you have ever delt with any of the distributors on ebay, but they are very reliable and helpful. But the arguement over quality is as old as time itself, but through my experience, and many others, they have been great temporary turbos for builds when we can't afford a brand name right away.

I used a T3/T4 from cxmotorsports for a while as a placement for my holset, worked great and saved me a ton of time and money on my build.
