I bought the Magnaflow Y-pipe and had a local muffler shop install it. Also bought new oxygen sensors and had them installed at the same time.

Besides being a LOT cheaper than an OEM Ford piece it sounds better, too. I had to replace the flex pipe at the same time, though, so I removed the 3rd cat as well. That could have a little to do with the nicer sound. :)

Does it run ok? Sounds like maybe the cats are plugged, or car is running very rich. Never seen an exhaust leak melt carpet. Run the car for a while and make sure the cats aren't glowing. Yes you'll need to replace the y anyways but if they're glowing then the car is runni9ng very rich or misfiring badly.

seemed to run ok....i think it was run for a long time hence the melted carpet...due to long exposure of heat..

I'll second the Magnaflow Y-Pipe if you want cats. The price is right - it includes cats too. FPS sells them off the shelf I am sure they can be found elsewhere too.

If you wanted to go catless I know NESHO makes those.

Good luck,
