After reading jedhead's comment about the cost of his insurance for his STS-V, I looked at my policy. I'm paying $900/year and that's with no accidents, no tickets and $500 deductible. Buffalo isn't as high as say NYC, but it's still up there. It's those lowlifes that torch their cars when they can't make the payments and other fraud we all pay for

Yeah, there are so many factors that affect your insurance that comparing across cars, drivers, states, and locations within a state, is useless.

FWIW, I get a discount with AAA for having my home insurance with them, plus I found that I get an additional 14% discount for belonging to a state Credit Union. I was gonna drop the CU account, but now I'm keeping it just to pay the car insurance.

I pretty much max out on discounts, ie I get them all. I thought my F-250 was high because it was a big vehicle, no match for the Smart Car. But then, the SHO is brand new. I was wondering if it's just Buffalo, or New York, or the SHO making the premium so high.

I pay 1500.00 per year here, for my 2008 Duramax CCSB and the 2010 SHO.
Although I have 2000.00 deductables.

My best freind ows a body shop, anything quoted below 2000.00 I can fix for just about free, if i get into an accident that is more than 2000.00 it gets taken of the top with things I can fix so either way I never pay.

I have 3 points coming off in 6 months, that will drop it down to about 1200.00, but I have to change insurance companies for a month. when my policy renews the point wont fall off, different month. So I have to switch and come back to see the discount.

Kirk, I think the bleeding heart liberal states, NY and MA to name a couple, have high rates. I bet Texas is a lot cheaper. I pay for my own medical and no one will insure in NY. It's the limousine liberals down in the city that makes this state bite the big bad bodini.

Yeah, AAA is weird here. For their top policy, which is on all the vehicles, I can only get a $500 deductible. Their lower policy allows $1,000. For any mishap below $2K with no police report, I would just get it fixed myself anyway. That's what I did with the "tree" incident on the '99 during the Convention in '00. It was about $1,600.

Of course, on a newer vehicle, a parking lot bump can easily cost $2K.

Out here in British Columbia, where we have province run and required car insurance that is no fault, my cost for the SHO with $500 deductible and $2 million liability over the minimum is $600 Canadian a year. Just paid it last week or I would not remember that. I am sure part of it being so low has to do with living outside any major urban population and having no recent accidents that I caused. No fault does mean you get paid no matter what, but they do still keep very close track of blame. I had a speeding ticket shortly after we moved here 5 years ago, getting used to the lower in some places, higher in others situation and what to watch for in the way of enforcement, but the structure here does not reflect that in your insurance cost unless you have more than 2 speeding, or one at really, really big numbers, in the same insurance year.

Sorry, I LOVE the No-Fault. Had it here in MI, not in IL, had it in KY, and now again in MI. Still a good thing overall.

Again, many factors to consider in your rates. I pay between $900 - $975/year with AAA for each of the three vehicles ('89 SHO is under a collector car policy for $400/year). The high one is the F-250, as it's the work truck, plus I have a surcharge due to the totaled Expedition that preceded it, and the $500 deductible they had to pay to a KY guy who decided to stop on a green light, and I crunched his LR corner (not a scratch on the truck).

No-Fault saves a lot of grief. Just live under a system where you have to chase down the other guys insurance company for a repair.

Holy ***** material Batman! There's No Fault here in NY too. You must be in Detroit. See about getting LoJack! If they did state run insurance here in NY, it would probably be around $2000/yr.

No Fault I believe is just for medical costs. That's a good thing. I also believe that once blame for the accident is determined, that person's insurance gets the bill.

Not true. All repair costs are paid by your insurance.

That's true for MI. In NY I believe it's different.

Doesn't seem to be:

http://www.preferredconsumer.com/legal/articles/new_york_automobile_no_fault_law.html

http://www.ins.state.ny.us/r68_link.htm

I poked around in the 2nd one a bit.

It seems that NY has put in some PITA wrinkles in their coverage, but basically they cover their own customers.

MI also has the safety valve that lets you sue for serious situations (like being hit by a drunk bank robber running from the cops).

I guess I stand corrected... I started looking at the NYS regs, but it didn't take long for my head to start spinning.

...being an insurance adjuster here in Cali, I found this discussion to be very interesting.

You couldn't pay me to live in a state with no-fault coverage. It makes no sense at all.

People need to be held responsible and liable for their own mistakes.....and shouldn't have to pay for other people's mistakes.

Unfortuneatly, at least here in SoCal we have to over-insure ourselves because of all our wonderful friends south of the border that come here with no insurance, hit you and then flee the scene....
