Here's a list of options the SHO has that the G8 does not offer if you really wanna know:
*AWD (like it or not, this is a feature a lot of people look for these days that will appeal to a larger demographic)
*GPS Naviagation (I don't care if you think they are a rip off and don't want one- you are not the majority of people buying cars these days. People want NAVI's these days and that's that.
*Laser-sited adaptive cruise control
*Heated & COOLED & massaging front seats w/ memory
*SYNC
*HID headlamps
*Heated rear seats
*Blindspot warning
*MyKey
*Capless fuel filler
*SecuriCode keyless entry
*Power adjustable pedals
*Power rear sunshade
*Rain-sensing wipers
*Auto high beam headlamps
*Rear-view camera

I understand the sticker price is hard to swallow, **** I can't afford one either. So if you just want a large performance sedan from Detroit (well let's just give Detroit credit anyway) with no other requirements or concerns then I say you SHOULD buy a G8. But if you want many of the features today's consumers want with many other cutting edge options that not even some luxury brands offer, then you should consider the new SHO. I don't think the new SHO is going after "THE TRUE ENTHUSIAST", that was the old SHO and we need to get over that, as hard as it is.
I agree it's going to be a challenge for Ford to steal market share from some of the luxury & near-luxury sport sedan buyers but that is what they are attempting. The G8 clearly was not intended to compete with those cars, it was meant to be a large 4dr rear-wheel drive muscle car and I praise GM for it!

Remember these are only opinions that I myself hold, maybe some of you agree with me and obviously some of you don't. That doesn't mean you need to be rude & brash with your comments. This is an enthusiast web site intended to share thoughts, tips, suggestions, and opinions on the SHO & similar-related topics. Please keep other comments to yourself if they are not meant to be helpful or insightful about the topic at hand.

Everyone keeps saying $14k difference from the G8GT vs. the SHO. I'm not sure how you keep getting that number. A loaded G8 GT is $35,500 MSRP. A stock SHO is $38,000 and many of those features listed above that the G8 does not even offer are standard on the SHO (e.g. HID's, AWD, SYNC, MyKey, Reverse Sensors, Memory Seats)
So you're only talking $2500 more for the SHO with all those features and comparable, if not better, performance (arguably I understand).

I'm not writing this only to escalate some sort of ******* match I just think people aren't giving a fair comparison of the 2 vehicles. Thanks for listening

That's a wonderful list of luxuries you mentioned. Tell me, how many of those do I get with the Performance Package?

Back in Michigan ... again.
I wonder if the difference in straight line performance figures between Edmunds and C & D/Motor Trend is indicative of the difference in having the track package? If so, half a second is quite a difference for a minor final drive adjustment. I'm very interested to see additional tests between cars with and without the track package.

As for the price difference per performance issue, the folks just wanting a fast sedan should look elsewhere, because this isn't the old SHO with a couple nice options and a kick butt engine. It's now also a luxury car that can be cross shopped with the likes of Audi, Acura and BMW. Not necessarily saying this in defense of the car, just pointing out the need to compare apples with apples.

Exactly, I guess people don't know this is the new Crown Vic replacement. Well the regular Taurus is.

Umm, well, for about $3k you can have your choice of V6 SHO that would do all that you ask? So, for about $28k less than the Pontiac. Sounds like a bargain to me.
except the v6 SHO in stock form isnt that much if at all faster than the cars available today and the cost to build a stupid fast, stupid capable, and stupid powerful SHO would hike up the cost very quickly. Plus it's still powering the wrong wheels.

I appreciate the time it took to put that together. Here's a possible "other" way to look at it...

If you need (or even want) the things listed...you should not have a 365HP AWD truckster...

Sorry in advance for my comments about these "features"...

Here's a list of options the SHO has that the G8 does not offer if you really wanna know:
*AWD (like it or not, this is a feature a lot of people look for these days that will appeal to a larger demographic)

Does that mean I have to want it?

*GPS Naviagation (I don't care if you think they are a rip off and don't want one- you are not the majority of people buying cars these days. People want NAVI's these days and that's that.
I gues I'm not a "people".
*Laser-sited adaptive cruise control
OK..that's a cool feature...but it's a feature without benefit.
*Heated & COOLED & massaging front seats w/ memory
Seems a little "mini-vanish" to me
Another "neato" This will not make me buy the car though...
*HID headlamps
Never had em...seems like an un-necessary styling thingy
*Heated rear seats
WHY would I want heated REAR seats??!
*Blindspot warning
So, with this...I don't have to pay attention?
It's about time...
*Capless fuel filler
 I'm paying for that??
*SecuriCode keyless entry
If someone wants to steal it...they're gonna find a way. Then again...It's a Ford Taurus.
*Power adjustable pedals
ohhhhkay....?
*Power rear sunshade
Yer kidding, right?
*Rain-sensing wipers
Cause it's SOOOO hard to turn the wipers on when I'm eating a cheeseburger, texting, shaving, and reading a book and smoking a cigar...
*Auto high beam headlamps
Been around since the 80's
*Rear-view camera
CAUSE IT'S A BARGE!!!!!

here's a list of features/options that have benefits:

EATC - set the temp and forget it. You don't have to keep adjusting the blower.

Auto head lamps: I hate needing a jump when I drive to work at sunup and forget to turn them off...but I DO have a stick...so I could just bump it.

Speed sensative audio: Turns it down when I'm not going 70 MPH any more and the radio is not competing with wind and tire noise.

Seats that make you feel planted: I hate sloshing around in fluffy seat.

That's it...That's all I want. All this other BS is just there so they can mention it in a commercial.

In fairness, I realize this is a SHO v G8GT thread and a lot of this stuff does not pertain to that comparison so perhaps it's a misplaced arguement.

Someone asked what options the SHO had that the G8 did not offer so I listed them.
NEWSFLASH!!!
That's why they're called OPTIONS. You DON'T have to choose them if you don't want them. What a great idea huh? If you don't want any of those features then but a stripped down version SHO or buy a G8. Debate is over. Next!

I note with interest and amusement that the most vocal negatives are always from those that have not been behind the wheel. Strange how that goes...

pax, smn

I've never ridden on the back of a camel, though I hear they can go a long way without stopping.

If you could show me a camel that can run as fast, would I be remiss for stating that I think I would prefer a thoroughbred Quarter Horse?

wow, thanks a lot for going through both cars and doing that. There are some decent features in that list, however not many that I would actually pay for, let alone value.

I wonder if the difference in straight line performance figures between Edmunds and C & D/Motor Trend is indicative of the difference in having the track package? lol keep dreaming

Volvo isn't even a true Audi competitor, let alone Ford.

here's a list of features/options that have benefits TO ME:
This is your opinion, not fact.

EATC - set the temp and forget it. You don't have to keep adjusting the blower.
Not sure what 35k car comes with a manual climate control.

Auto head lamps: I hate needing a jump when I drive to work at sunup and forget to turn them off...but I DO have a stick...so I could just bump it.
So you can't remember to turn off your lights? Your that forgetful and lazy?

This is actually a feature that would turn me OFF to buying a car.

Speed sensative audio: Turns it down when I'm not going 70 MPH any more and the radio is not competing with wind and tire noise.
Standard on most cars now.

Seats that make you feel planted: I hate sloshing around in fluffy seat.
ok, personal preference

In fairness, I realize this is a SHO v G8GT thread and a lot of this stuff does not pertain to that comparison so perhaps it's a misplaced arguement.

You don't have a single feature that would suggest that you want either a luxury car or a performance car. auto climate, auto lights, auto radio, good seats etc. All are features that should be present on most cars 25k+.

I state that I drive to work at sunup and you somehow call me lazy and forgetful?! Your that stupid?

lol wow

You forget to turn your lights off and it kills your battery and your calling me stupid? Who cares when you drive to work, its not the time of days fault or your cars fault that you forget to turn your lights off. Its your fault.

You need to tone down your internet ego. Don't forget, the internet is serious business. :fit:

I state the things that I care about in a car and somehow you find a way to call me names. Yet, I have a problem with ego?

I was just cracking up as I read each one down the line. I think I made a comment somewhere else about how all these things people rave about, and will never use after owning the car for a month... **** I think everything on that list is ridiculous

and wow its got a nav system! WTF, grow a pair of balls, I've never used one of those in my life and I've driven to a lot of places....

rain sensing wipers, rear view camera(which is very dangerous IMHO, people will use that instead of actually looking, you know all the lazy americans will do that... wonder whose kid will be the first victim of our own ******* ideas), heated rear seats, blind spot warning...

how about one of those bathroom devices that shoots water on your crack, or something to get the sand out of your ******.........

heres something I don't see anyone talking about...... you got all that stuff, and with the crummy Ford quality, how much is all that shit going to cost to fix in 2 or 3 years when its breaking left and right... its just that much more stuff to pay for later on down the road... this car will cost a lot and see the dealer a lot in the long run I have a feeling.

you sissies who like performance driving would really pick a v6 with 365hp and a fwd based automatic only AWD system that will probably break over a RWD v8 muscle car with a 6 speed manual and the LS series engine inside.... all for 14 thousand dollars more you would pick this car just because of a name or heated rear seats and a navigation system.... I wouldn't even consider this car just because of the name, it is nothing like the original....

your all about to eat a pile of crap Ford is spoon feeding you, I hope it taistes real good for 40 grand..........

Thank you. :salute:

Its truely unbelievable how everyone here is eating this crap up. People are so unrealistic its unbelievable. Comparing the Ford Taurus to A6's, 5 series and saying that the G8's interior is so far behind the new SHOs is ludacris. Its a nice car, but people are not being realistic with this car. Its no German fighter.

However rain sensing wipers are awesome if executed properly. My 2006 A4 had them and they were great.
