I may have to relocate my dis module off the intake. I know it has to have a proper ground ( planning on a line dirrect to neg side of battery) but as for the heat sink part of the equation.

I can mill a chunk of aluminum with " fins " on the back and use the proper grease to attach it. Is there anyting Im missing to prevent this from working??

I wouldn't be too worried about having the 'heatsink' bolted to it. As long as you have a ground and preferably mounted to something, you should be fine. Tom has his DIS relocated as well.

The ground is very important. Clean all the surfaces very well and you will save yourself headaches in the future. The heatsink is used for thermally protecting the DIS if you are mounting it to something that obviously gets hot!

The stock location isn't doing any favors in the 'heatsink' department. I bet the intake is actually adding heat more than bleeding it off from the DIS. If he mounts the DIS out of the engine bay or away from any significant heat, he'll be perfectly fine. The standard environment it normally lives in it pretty torturous to begin with.

just mount the puppy to a chunk of sheet metal that's not occupied.

I just bolted mine to my backplane that everything else is mounted to. The backplane is actually a grounding buss bar in The Other Woman's wiring center, so it has a great ground. This wiring center is about 6-7 feet away from the crossover plenum.

THANKS GUYS !. I was bored so I milled an 1/2 " aluminum plate with a few cooling fins on it to mount it to, more for looks then anything else.

I've always wondered what in that DIS exactly? Anyone got a schematic?

I've never seen a schematic, but you can pop the cover off with a flathead screwdriver and see all the doo-dads inside.
