Finished installing the 69mm TB that Nick was selling in his Group buy.

So does this thing come with an IAC block off plate? Because my idle air control valve is useless now. Really, i'm not exaggerating one bit. Pulled it while the car was idling at 1900-2000k, and the RPM's dropped to 1100. Rev the engine, drops right back to 1100.

Has anyone else installed their TB yet?

On the plus side, throttle response is great, and that new sound is even better. But the score is still 2-2 currently.... :madflame:

I see you have already removed the coolent block the IAB sits on. So just make a plate & gasket to seal the intake off & report back.
-so does the 69TB have holes/gaps in it to provide Idle Air?

Well if want to call the gaps around the throttle blade "holes"... then yes.

:nut:

I have not driven the car with it yet. Just popped the throttle a few times. This plus a lightweight flywheel makes the car very rev happy.

Sounds like the the throttle is sticking open because the plate is binding. Did you grind enough out of the throttle rod to fit the bigger plate in? If you didn't when you tighten down the nut it will stick it open.;)

Nope. There is a gap. It's not binding, it opens smoothly. Just seems to be poor fabrication.

How much of a gap is there? Did you center the plate well to make sure there isn't any large air gap? Mine has been fine and the others I know of also haven't had any issues.

If it's idling high there has to be a gap.

You don't say??!?!?! Which is exactly what I just said. anyways.

The plate IS centered. If it was not the throttle would bind up... ask me how I know....

We couldn't by any chance get you to hold the TB by a light and take a picture of the closed throttle plate? It would give us a indication of how bad the air gap is. You really shouldn't see much day light. If you do then your probably not going to like the trouble this TB will be giving you.

My 06 Focus was really bad. It has to completely seal, no other option or it would idle at 2,000 rpm.

Maybe you could try resetting the plate again. Also, try flipping the plate. That can make a huge difference.

There is absolutely NO need to have an attitude with me, I have done nothing but try to help you and offer your refunds. You are the ONLY person I heard of that had issues and I had 25 TB's made, all clones of each other; so I think you need to assess some of the issues before getting all bent out of shape.

That throttle plate looks circular. The original is slightly elliptical, isn't it? ...so that it will seal off the TB without being right at 90°? I don't know if it matters, but it seems like it might make a difference it the quality of the seal.

Also, the holes on the sides of that throttle plate look to be larger than the idle bypass hole...so I understand how your idle bypass is useless now.

Methinks you need a better TB plate....eventually. If it idles at 1100, you can put it on the back burner and make it a little pet project since the car runs fine.

If you were in Michigan, I'd consider warning you about how the idle can change with atmospheric conditions, but being in TX will help your idle stay consistant at that 1100.

The only attitude (i.e sarcasm)in that post was about the comment about the air gap... as I had allready stated that it DID have an air gap.

I'm trying to be nice about the whole ordeal. I could really be a ***** about it...

As am I, which is why I am trying to work with you on this. You got offered a refund because you were NOT being a *****; I won't lie I wouldn't have offered if you were. Anyway, what my buddy ran into when he did his was the plate wasn't centered/rotated enough, and those two little cutouts (something the machine shop did w/o asking me, as I would not have wanted that done for this exact reason) were letting some air though. When you put the plate in hold it up to the light and try to rotate it and such to seal it up as much as possible, that's what my buddy did and his works fine now. I know you can get that thing to work as everyone else's has. If I ever do another run of them I am having the plates made w/o those notches and maybe to a tighter tolerance then the original run.

If you cannot get it to work shoot me a pm and I will contact the machine shop as I know there were a few extra plates left. Maybe we'll get lucky and they didn't cut notches in the others and I can send you one w/o them. That is provided they didn't just throw them out after I picked everything up.;)

There really isn't a gap at the throttle shaft, just around the edge, most of the way around.

It really isn't a big deal, and I don't really mean to gripe about it... Just posting the resuts of my install.

After driven it today with more than a few spirited runs, I can say that it did help in the upper RPM's. After about 7500, you could feel the engine starting to run out and the pull from 75 to 80 wasn't there. After the install, the engine pulls stronger between 7500-8200. I have also noticed snap throttle gear changes are MUCH easier and faster. This alone makes the car much more fun to drive. The added growl is also a bonus :nut: . I don't think it added much if any hp, if it did it's on the order of 2-3, but it did move the power around from what I can tell.

Overall I am happy with it(believe it or not), it's what you expect when installing a bigger throttle body. Not the same as slapping a bigger TB on a Mustang, but when can you ever compare modding a SHO to a Stang.

This is all first hand experience on my car... so other results may/will differ.
