In preparation for the new SHO source coil overs I'm getting my parts list together to finally install a Gen 3 subframe. The plan is to do the 3.3 swap, gen 3 subframe and coil overs all at the same time. My question is, is the ZF rack really an upgrade over the Gen1 rack? What are the advantages? What makes it a better rack?

I just know I love how it feels. And since you will have everything apart, might as well go for it.

You can drive mine at KZoo to see how it feels.

I didn't do the install, but based on the previous owner's attention to detail, I'm assuming so. I know it (95) feels distinctly different than my 89 which uses GEN 1 rack (G3SF and coilovers, similar setup as the 95).

So it sounds like Deacon Blue is making an appearance this year!

There is another thread on here it has a servotronics actuator on it that's wired into the sarc box on a 3rd Gen but there's only like 7 wires you need and it changes the steering assist depending upon speed

Is that for the VAPs? If so, I'm planning to run it without the VAPs.

When Marcel was kind enough to let me drive his car, the steering was what really impressed me! I would have thought I was driving a $60,000 BMW! That's how great the Gen 3 subframe and ZF steering rack feel! I really need to do it to one of my cars!

My GenIII steering and suspension were miles ahead of any GenI/II that I've ever owned and certainly where the Taurus first started in the late 80's. I imagine the new ones are even that much better. Driving this 93 makes me wish I had the GenIII subframe and the ZF rack.
And the answer to the ZF question is, if it performs like it does on the GenIII, it will be noticeably improved performance. Can't wait to hear about it. I would love it in my car
