With the SHO now being gone I am back to Autocrossing my daily driver for the first time in years.
I took the Z06 out with relatively low expectations. I have just put new tires on it, but they are just relatively pedestrian RE-760 Sports, NOT the 200 Tread-Wear monsters that are REQUIRED to be a front running car in Street Class (Example, RE-71R's, Hankook RS-3's, Dunlop Star Spec...etc). This car is bone stock and is classed in A-Street.
First Impressions....Holy Crap. The Turn-In is much better than expected. The front end just has an incredible amount of grip. The rear end is also pretty planted...thought admittedly...it could probably benefit from a sway-bar. Regardless...as long as you are not stupid with the throttle, it stays planted. The car is also much easier to drive at, or near the limit, than many people would lead you to believe. It took no time at all to Jump in and push the car to what I felt was maybe 90%.
Anyways, with car not having the RS-3's on it yet...I was surprised how well it did. 17th Overall RAW time, 15th Overall PAX time and 1st in Class (89 Total Entries). Even more surprising...I knocked another 2nd off my times in Fun-Runs, that time would have netted me 10th overall. D'oh!
