When I turned the key to the start position all I got was a click - no engagement of the starter to crank the engine.

... so I had to start the beast by popping the clutch wherever I was stuck, and now I look like the Hunchback of Notre Dame because my shoulder and back are toast. :cuss:

I discovererd that the battery cable terrminal had snapped off the solenoiod at the starter. :omg:

The quickest fix I could come up with, was to attach one of those Thomas & Betts 2/0 Compression Ring Terminals to the end of the cable.

My battery cables are made from 2/0 welding wire - my home brew.

But sometimes when I turn the key to the start position, I still get that one click. Eventually the car will start after trying maybe 10 or 12 times just getting the click. :madflame: :banghd:

The strangest part is that if I try to restart the car immediately after I shut it off or within an hour or two it starts right up.

If there is an interval of say four to five hours when previously starting the car, I have to go through that nosense of trying 10 or 12 times. :nut:

WTF - could the relay at the fender be hanging up or the solenoid on the starter??

Sounds like a connection/corrosion problem to me. Maybe you should get regular cables instead of the home brew.

 :smash:

My home brew are awesome! I've had them for well over 10 years. Four times the x-sectional area of the stock cables and a LOT less money.
