Is the car pretty cheap? I would not worry about the tranny...for all practical purposes it is brand new. Here is a post script because my transmission on my 91 Mustang went out in 1993 and the rebuild is going strong even now...I just thought about that..I romp this rebuild and have for 9 years and nothing but good to report..

Kelley Blue Book ( www.kbb.com ) says that a used car lot can ask around $12,700. I put in that the car had leather, 6 disc, and the works it would be $12,225 without the leather. To me that seems a little high. I got my 98 with 72,000 miles on it for $10,200. I would see if you could find something in the $8,000 range like SNAKE said or see if you can get the seller down quite a bit lower.

Just for farts and giggles the car would go for roughly $10,200 if you were to buy it from a private party and $9880 with out leather.

That's just my $.02 worth.

You can get a more exact # by going to www.kbb.com

I used the zip code 50301 (des moines) and it may be different in your zip code.

Let us know what you do.

Also you might check out e-Bay, there is always a good cheap SHO on there. thumbs_u

You should look at Edmunds.com for the 97 SHO. You should pay about 9000 dollars for one in great condition. Check it out and then decide for yourself...you might get it for closer to $8000 knowing the tranny problems. Anyway good luck..we would love to hear your banter over the next couple of years as a GENIII guy..

I just ask all this because I have a 92, and want to buy another car here in the near future. I like the looks of the gen 3s, but really I know nothing about them, besides the cam sprockets need to get welded asap. Any more need to know gen 3 info wouold also be very useful. Thanks alot gen 3 guys you all seem a bit more mature and helpful then the other people on this forum.

SHOless4now, I am in MPLS MN and have been contemplating selling my SHO. It it would be right in your price range. Tranny is strong. Email me offline if you are interested. I would sell either totally loaded up with rims, sound system, warranty etc, or just the way it would come from the dealer (high chromes, stock sound system etc. It has all the factory options. It has 68k. Let me know.

There is nothing wrong with the xmission in these cars if it is not mistreated. They were never designed for the drag strip or for stoplight racing. If you do either a lot, yes, you are going to end up having to do some transmission work sooner or later. The Gen III was designed to be a high speed, good handling, cruiser. If you use it as desired, you will not find yourself having transmission problems. Of course, it is hard to control what a previous owner has done. :)

Hey Mark!! How was your vacation to Duluth? Man do I love it up there. If the car goes without the rims, I will give ya a call. I am not pressing to sell it, but if someone is interested, it may have to go.

BTW, how is the hood looking? Is it done? If so, is it worth my looking into? It may be a good thing to do if I keep her. thumbs_u

I love these car!!!!
