im convinced that i have a bad cat and ford said that i dont because it didnt show up when they pulled codes..i smell the "egg" smell often, especially at full throttle for awhile...With the smell i have also been getting poor gas mileage..somethin like more than 30 miles less per tank..if ford is right about the code not showin up, what else would it be????thanks guys

30miles fewer on a tank of gas isn't necessarily going to be bad cats. Could be just about anything (plugs, fuel filter, dirty air cleaner)but that only works out to 2mpg less. Depending on your area, if they go to a winter gas blend that could have been your change in mileage as well. Should be about out of that time of the year now, but its a thought. From the people that I've talked to who have had their cats go bad, it does throw a code. Hope this helps.

Remembering a thread from the V8 SHO list from about a year ago it seemed alot of guys experience the sulphur smell quite a bit. My SHO has always had that smell every time I accelerate hard. Also it doesn't seem to matter the octane or brand of fuel.

I get that smell. Only seem to get it when I go WOT and have to break hard. Maybe the car runs too rich at WOT or maybe it is partially clogged? If it's good and clogged it should throw a code. There is O2 sensors before and after the cats. They should be to detect a faulty cat. I think that things have to be real bad before the car will detect anything wrong. My bad coils have to get really bad to throw a code. I know months in advanced when the coils are starting to go bad.

I'm thinking about replacing the two front cats with high flow cats when they go bad.

Mine always gets this smell after a WOT run and then backing off. Since nothing is wrong with the car and it runs very strongly, as well as the fact that a fair number of others seem to have the same situation and have no problems also, I suspect this is completely normal and not worth worrying about.

Thanks guys for the info on how you smell it often too...guess ford was right about no code meaning its not bad..im still pulling the usuall times on the g-tech, so i guess its not hurting my performance whatever it is...now i just got to figure out whats causing my bad gas mileage..the guy at ford mention the winter gas thing too, but my gas mileage just started getting bad..all winter it was normal, so im pretty sure its not the gas.hopefully i fugure it out.

hey elcapitan87 thats a pretty nice timeslip you got there.. :) hopefully ill also brake into the 14's this season when i get my UDP....

UDP got me about 1/10 consistantly, so you should be in the neighborhood. I'm hoping for better times this coming season. That 14.900 run had my worst 60' time since I got the UDP put on. Everything has been at 2.1x or better EXCEPT that run. Give me something to strive for still I guess. Good luck
