I have a 99 that I just got the engine purring like a kitten now I'm trying to diagnose the transmission. Here's the jist, when I first start it up it will not shift into OD, ever. Once It has been driven about 10-15mins it "might" shift into OD, but will "slide" back to 3rd if you apply any throttle. Then if you get the entire car up to operating temp (about 20-25 mins) it will almost never shift into OD (and sometimes shifts a little hard from 1st to 2nd). Then the OD light will start flashing at that point. I've just flushed the trans and changed filter (yes it was black, but not full of "pieces", magnet was a little "hairy"). So, I'm thinking either the OD servo is not working, OD accumulator circuit is faulty or..... The OD band is burnt and/or gone......

Thoughts/comments?????????

Have you checked for codes when the OD light is flashing? If there is no code then it is probably a hardware problem.

I checked the last time the OD light was flashing and there was no codes. I figured the light was flashing as the car was running hot from sticking in 3rd and assumed it was the temp sensor in the trans making the light go off.....

You need to scan the car with a good scan tool. Your basic OBDII scanner will not read any transmission codes.
