Hi All

1993 3.2L (P); Car ran like sh$%*t because the plug wells were filling with oil. sucked out all the oil and cleaned the wires ran like new for days. I went ahead and replaced the valve cover gaskets and plug well gaskets, while I was in there I did a valve lash adjustment. I have done no less than 10 or so 60K services on all the SHOs that I have owned over the last 8 - 10 years, never had a problem. Didn't like the wires so I changed them like I always do, replaced the plugs like always do and cleaned and checked everything twice, everyth8ng is set uop right. Went to start it up and she just turned over like it was geting no spart, not even a backfire rechecked the fireing order, all the vacuum and electic to and from the DIS and so on, I can hear the fuel pump coming on and there are no codes in memory from this, i have a AutoXray computer. I'm alone so i can't check for spark nor do i have a light to do it.

any sugeations as to were to start with this . Timeing belt was not touched and it is new. i replaced it 2 years ago. Checked CPS wires all look good. Anyone have this problem before? What did I "F" up and not know that i did it

Thanks

sounds to me like a cam sensor maybe. Make sure its plugged in nice and tight and if not replace that with a known working one to see if that helps. Although before that you may want to gt some more opinions before spending the money.:thumb:

IAB & Grounds

Hi

what is the IAB? don't know what this is or never heard it called by that? Please tell me where the plug is and what "IAB" means. All the grounds look OK, checked with DVOM just a minute ago in fact. Only thing that I did differently this time was to take the throttle position sensor apart because the one of the bolts was rotted, I believe that it went back together the correct way. If that was wrong or bad would the prevent start up?

Thanks Much

IABV-Idle Air Bypass valve... or IAC- Idle air control

Have you tried to go WOT while starting?

And no, the TPS will not affect startup.

I'd re-check ALL connections again.(i know you said you did this allready, but still)

Wot

No I have not tried going full throttle while cranking the motor. What does that show or prove out. If it rules something out, I'll try it.

thanks

Re: full Throttle

I tried full throttle while cranking and nothing. At this point I don't even know if I'm getting spark, or fuel. It was running real nice, super nice before I took the intake and valve covers off so something got unpluged or jared loose while I was working on it that I'm not awear of yet. You could set a dime on the intake and it wouldn't rattle off she ran so smooth before this. I'm working by myself so I need to get help and check out fuel and spark.

again thanks and any info is still welcaome.

Problem solved!!!!!!

Found the problem, it was simple too. After I did the intake and plug port gaskets I swapped out the old intake with a powder painted one. It came with a DIS pack on it so I just threw the whole unit in. The paint was keeping the DIS pack from ground. The back of the DIS is circuit ground and makes the connection to ground via the intake were it mounts. I was not getting that, I measured about 100 ohms to chassis. Sanded the paint off and she fired right up nice. A new problem came up however, she won't idle. If you hold the pedal at between 500 & 1000 RPMs she stays running nice and smooth but the minute you take your foot off the gas she stalls. I'll get after that tomorow, i put on a new/used throttle body, could be the TPS.

whoever wrote "look at grounds' was right - thanks

The no-idle sounds like the symptoms of the idle air control valve as mentioned above. You might swap the one from the other intake onto this powder-coated intake and check the electrical connection for the IAC.

Check gaskets also. Could be a vacume leak maybe. I would just think that if it was powder coated where the gaskets go there could be imperfections.
