I have the classic symptoms of a MFS gone bad. Basically everything works but the actual headlights and the only way I could drive at night is by holding the stalk back so the brights stay on. I tried swapping out the MFS with one out of my other 89 parts car and still have the same problem. A few nights ago it started smoking from that area while I was driving and I lost my headlights immediately, so I know the problem is right there. In looking at the connectors, the long flat one is a bit melted in the center. I've tested all the contacts on the connector with a test light and I'm not getting power at the center of it, which are two red wires with a black stripe. So I suppose there is a short in that wire somewhere.
I have downloaded the '89 wiring diagram and none of it makes sense to me whatsoever. How can I trace where those wires go? Or am I better off just running an auxilary switch for my headlights and saying to **** with it?
