I just got a new cd player and it has a set of preamp outs. I have a kenwood amp that currently is running the audio source(I guess thats what you call it?) off the rear speaker wires. Should I buy a set of RCAs and disconnect the speaker wire connection on my amp? If so how long should the RCA wire be?

How many pre outs do you have ??

If you only have a pair (single channel), I would run a 20 ft RCA to the aftermarket amp, And run that amp to power the rear speakers. This way you'll still have controll of the rear speakers with the fader from the head unit.
