I'm not quite sure what forum this went it so I took an educated guess and picked this one.

Today was the first day I got to drive my SHO (I just got my tags and it registered). Well today it was raining and the humidity was rising.
I turn my defroster on and it clears up the front window...for the most part; there's still a few spots.
I noticed when I put my hand up by the vents by the windshield it's blowing out hot air, if I'm not correct isn't it supposed to blow out cool air.
I don't know if this is possible since the A/C does not work.
Well the main problem is that my rear window fogs up and so do my side windows. Can anyone please help me with some possible solutions? I have a very difficult time driving with fogged up windows.

one more question: I noticed my thermostat gauge was about 3/4 of the way up. This didn't seem right to me and I was wondering what might be the problem and if there's some fluids and what not I should check.

Thank you all very much.

when you set the climate control on Defrost, the A/C cycles. so, according to what temp you have the climate control set at, it may be cool air, warm air, or hot air. regardless of that, the A/C must be functioning for it to cycle. as for the engine coolant temp, you might look into changing the thermostat, coolant temp sensor, and flush and fill the cooling system with the appropriate anti-freeze. id recommend doing all of it for peace of mind for yourself. remember, not all thermostats are built the same. 2 of the same brand will have different operating temperatures, thus the idiot guage will read differently.

Generally, you need for the ac to work to defog your windows. The cold air is what removes the humidity from the air. You can also defog with hot air, but it has to be damn hot. This method evaporates the humidity.

Now that said, my 93 never defogged worth a damn. I would clear the front window but never the sides. My 90 does a better job, but my ac is extremely, maybe even excessively cold.

I'll reiterate what has been posted about the AC needing to work.

I went last winter with just the "basic" defroster capabilities. Yes, it is difficult to clear the windows in rainy weather when the AC system doesn't work.

I compensated by installing blind spot mirrors and training myself to use them and the outside mirrors whenever the rear and side windows were fogged. More care in your driving is definately needed under these conditions.

As far as the temp guage goes, verify your coolant level is proper. If the guage stays in that same spot all the time, don't worry about it. As long as the indication is in the "NORMAL" range, you're fine. You can expend a lot of effort getting the guage to register in the "A-L" when it just isn't needed. If it spikes or runs into the red, then start to worry.

Thanks for all the replies
I plan on checking all the fluids and replacing if needed.

I just remember I had it set to the lowest temp setting and it was still blowing out hot air. I know it wasn't extremely hot outside, just humid.

Good thing I don't live in Seattle. I guess ill just have to drive with some windows open when it rains.

thanks a lot

Stinger,
If your temperature is 3/4 of the way up, say near the N or O (NORMAL)you should be concerned. If you just got this car and do not know its complete history, there are a few things you should do for your own peace of mind.
1. Change the thermostat and gasket (O" ring) with the recomended temperature range and brand.
2. Flush and refill your cooling system.
3.Check all of your hoses and connections
4. Replace your radiator cap with an Autolite cap for you model year SHO.
5. Make sure your fan (or fans) are working properly, that is at the right time and temperature. If your guage is 3/4 of the way up your fan(s) should be running, unless you have a faulty guage.
The temperature sensor controls the fan(s), but it is bypassed when the A/C is turned on.
The fact that your A/C is not working is a whole different problem.
You need to get your temperature down somewhere between the M and the L, with between the A and the L being the ideal reading. rangerj
