Will any 5 speed trans work in a GEN 1...

I am locating a tranny now for my car and had a question. I can use any 5 speed from a gen 1 or gen 2 SHO right?......just wanted to be sure before i call around shrug

Yep, a tranny from either Gen is fine. They are the same part, except for different synchro materials (brass in the early cars, paper in the rest) Externally they are the same though.

Yup and year transaxle will work, and if you have a GEN 1 with a cable shifter you might get lucky and score a rod shifter from a late 91 or any GEN 2.

The fiber material referred to before is actually in the blocking rings rather than the synchros. The synchros with their sliding outer rings are all steel. The blocking rings in my 1991 transaxle were fiber lined in gears 1 through 4 and brass (the same material as the rest of the blocking ring) in 5th gear.
