My brother has a 1998 V-8 SHO with the known cam breakage. Question, will a V-6 engine bolt to the transmission? Also, from what I'm told as long as the V-6 has the wire harness to plug into the main harness at the firewall, it will work, provided a V-6 computer is installed also. Any help would be appreciated.

It depends what V-6 you are talking about. If you put a V6 Vulcan or Duratec in that's from the same year, yes, it would be pretty much plug and play with the computer and harness to match the engine. If you are talking about the SHO V-6, that would take some extensive wiring modification to get an OBD I engine to run in an OBD II car.

Does anyone have any idea how ridiculously difficult this may or may not be to do? I had a GenII years ago before it was totaled. I test drove a GenIII not long after that and it was a thrill. However, without having a reputable cam welder in the Cincinnati area, I am nervous to take a chance on a GenIII because I feel it may choke right after I buy it.

That said, the GenII SHO engines are supposedly "bullet proof". Is the swap so difficult that many don't attempt it? Curious about any stories that are out there.

Thanks.
